This a great sounding clip. Forgive my naivete but can you clarify about NP3 sounds and how you made this recording? _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

Nevermind. I see in another post that you explain. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

No prob. 😊 But I should have spelled it out anyway.
I truly appreciate both the excellent post and the tip. Last night I downloaded the NP3 trial and expect to buy it, and eventually an upgrade to Finale v26. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

NP3 absolutely changed my arranging and composing experience and motivation for it. For the money, the ease of use, and support, and loading speed, nothing out there is better. _________________ —Bach Omega

Good sounds, nice imitation of a brass band. The preciseness of the dotted eighth and sixteenth note rhythms, especially when the dotted eights are held out, sounds unnatural. I don't think you would hear a live band playing that way, but, not bad for computerized music. It could certainly pass as being a real band by non musicians.

It will play the way you tell it how to play. Just depends on how one sets it up as well as on interpretive instructions. And the listener’s ear, as you pointed out. _________________ —Bach Omega

I recall how happy I was with Garritan upgrade, and I've certainly gotten good use of it. But I'm definitely intrigued with NP3. Too early to tell if I'll like it for all things. I've read online that there's some discontent with version 3 for certain voices. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

Fantastic! Both the arrangement and the playing. _________________ Jonathan Milam

If you check the NotePerformer 3 YouTube channel, they've got some great samples of what an orchestra sounds like. Here's a YouTube from a guy who includes the XML and Sibelius files in links he provides to the Star Wars Suite:

Very nice. It seems NP3 does particularly well with orchestral ensembles and the NP website has many examples of that. What I've not yet heard are other sorts of ensembles and the website doesn't seem to cover them.
A minor quibble is that to my ears NP3 seems to apply reverb by default which feels a bit like cheating and I can see times when I wouldn't want that. Do you know if that's something that can be altered?
And my apologies for making your thread all about the tools and not your fine composition. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

No apologies necessary. I totally get it. Lol. You can change the level of reverb in Sibelius (and I assume Finale). However, I think the sounds were designed with that level of reverb. When you remove the reverb, it sounds astoundingly weird.
I will post a reed arrangement when I get a chance. _________________ —Bach Omega

I just found how to adjust reverb in Finale, something I never looked into previously. Thx! _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

Here are two arrangements for double reed quartet. NotePerformer 3 is able to play notes beyond the natural range of the instruments, so I took advantage of that particularly for the bassoon.
I really like how NP3 handles dynamics and legato.

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed both of those. Lovely arrangements and the playback is very satisfying. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."
