|
|
I recently bought a new Harmon mute and one day I noticed the top half started twisting when I put it into the bell to play. Ever since then theres been a rattling noise whenever I play with the mute. I can twist the top half around until its in the 'right' spot but it never stays fixed. Does anyone know how, or if, I can fix this? |

That problem with new Harmon mutes goes away after it hits the floor a couple of times. Intonation is also improved. _________________ C. G. Conn 60B Super Connstellation

The imperfections in the mute shape can indeed improve the sound. The reason, most likely, is creation of new resonance modes in the dinged mute. Some players have been known to take a mallet to their new Harmon and put lots of dings on it until satisfied with the result. |

My High School jazz teacher took my Harmon and whacked it against a chair a few times.
I still have it. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Flat head screwdriver - a hammer - a single merciful blow at the joint.
(Looks like our collective advice is summed up in one Michael Jackson chorus.) |
