I see these occasionally on eBay, and report them as soon as I can. If you have spent as many years as I have admiring your Strad, you can quickly spot these cheap knock-offs. If you search for Bach Stradivarius on the internet, especially from China, you find them offered "new in the box" with very authentic looking Conn-Selmer paperwork.

These horns have the model number (for example LT180S43) engraved on the mouthpiece receiver. The water keys are definitely NOT Strad. The case sorta looks like a Strad case, but a little too small. The bell "engraving" (laser printed) is the biggest giveaway. These guys have the nerve to stamp made in the USA and Elkhart, Indiana on these.

I reported these listings, and noticed they were taken down within an hour, noting "error in listing". I might have thought one might be actual lack of knowledge, but putting 2 of these up at premium prices seems a bit of intent, I believe. Anyway, I'd like to the the word out for instrument buyers and teachers.

I’ve noticed these too even on Craigslist. Such a shame that they exist. They prey on HS kids that don’t know any better and think they are getting a steal.

Noticed another knockoff. They are getting more details right. Seller does not show bell engraving, but the water keys and small case are still dead giveaways. Seller may not know, but I sent him a note about it. I have not played on one.

I did a little research to see if the knockoffs are increasing, and yes, they are getting harder to spot. Some apparently have created a more believable bell impression.

Seems like there should be some protections from our "trade partners".

This says it is a store demo - so that would mean the store has to know they didn't buy it from Bach. 50 years in business.....wow..

Something sketchy about that ebay account.

I actually messaged these guys about the fake Strad, the guy who claims to be owner of the shop said “…..had a new kid doing my ebay”, who placed the ad “on his own”, and he has since removed the ad.

Sounds like it might have been an honest mistake?

Yeah, I rarely buy stories like that.

It'll probably pop up again within a month or two.
