Sad to announce that the UK trumpet legend, Stuart Brooks has passed away after a legnthy fight with cancer.
If you're not in the UK you might not have heard of him, but you will have certainly heard him!

I saw him play in a George Russell masterclass/ rehearsal in London (Blackheath, I think) in the mid to late 80's. He was a great player with an impressive résumé. Sad loss. |

I remember Stuart playing in Blackheath concert halls (might have been the same masterclass/rehearsal). He was there with Derek Watkins and Toru "Tiger" Okoshi.
This was around the time that "breath builders" had become all the rage. Tiger had one and spent quite a lot of time puffing into it before the rehearsal started. He turned to Stuart and asked, "What do you guys in the UK do to warm up?". Stuart replied, "Derek and I normally have a cup of tea and a fag (cigarette), and away we go".
He then left the hall with Derek for a cigarette and a cup of tea, came back and played his socks off! |
