I remember when he used to make two different trumpet mutes: The Majestic (what the current one seems to have evolved from) and the Exuberance (like a bucket mute with clarity).

I helped Ion play test these mutes, as he was living in Memphis at the time. I also gave my original production mute to Billy Hunter, who introduced them to the Met Opera section. Ion was nice enough to give me one to replace it...
The original design incorporated an internal spring (similar to the old "screen-door" reverb units) to help the mute buzz at lower volumes. I didn't hear that mentioned, so perhaps the updated mutes did away with the need for this.
In any case, Ion is a great fellow, a fine musician, and a true craftsman...

Interesting, I'll have to ask him about those.
