I'm happy to announce the publication of “Sentinels,” a fanfare for two trumpets commissioned in the wake of September 11. The work's central section pays homage to the mensural advances of the 14th century, gradually accelerating towards a breaking point in the process. In this respect the rhythmic structure can be perceived to collapse on itself. As I composed, the image ever before my mind’s eye was that of two towering, isolated individuals — shadow figures in some tragic sense — no doubt evoked by the events of 9/11. It may be a fitting way to mark the anniversary of that tragic day in American history.

Publication information is listed below. The score is available directly from me, from The Newmatic Press (info@newmaticpress.com), from J.W. Pepper https://www.jwpepper.com/Sentinels/11213304.item#.YON1MxNKiqA or from your favorite music retailer. You can hear the music and see the score at the YouTube link below.

Best wishes,

If it's a recently composed work, is it really commissioned in the "wake" of that event? That was 20 years ago. I've always heard that phrase used to describe things that are a little closer together chronologically.

In any case, thanks for posting.

"Sentinels" is only recently published, but it was commissioned and composed nearly 20 years ago. MK

Well, then that's completely the right word.

I guess I never thought there could be a large gap between composing and publishing, but that's clearly not correct.

Again, thanks for sharing.
