I'm looking to move closer to home (Michigan), and I'm faced with two teaching job offers: one in Grand Rapids, and one in Detroit. I've lived in Grand Rapids, but not in Detroit.
What is your perception of the music scene for trumpet (classical, jazz, and mariachi) in the Grand Rapids vs. Detroit metro areas? Teachers, students, paid gigs, subbing, room to grow, jam sessions etc.? My main playing/interest areas in my professional life are jazz, avant-garde, and chamber music. Thanks for your thoughts! |
