The infamous unofficial mouthpiece comparator is back online with improved code that works better on today’s desktop and mobile devices.

Check out the unofficial comparator here: http://www.trumpet.cloud/mpc

Important notes:

- You can now share URLs and save mouthpiece comparison images. The biggest change to this new version enables you to share the URL of your A/B comparison, and/or download the comparison (as shown) to your device.
- Added more drawings. The repository contains over 600 mouthpiece designs listed in the original unofficial comparator, plus a handful of drawings from that archive which previously went unlisted. (As of writing, no other drawings have been added.)
- Improved web browser compatibility. The above comparator should now work on most web browsers — including mobile devices — and all drawings listed in each column should load properly as of July 2021.
- New background options. This version comes default with a dark blue background, but with the added option to rotate among white, black, and blue backgrounds.
- Small interface enhancements. The Mouthpiece A/B selectors are now on the left, with the drawings displayed on the right. The “Mouthpiece B” column now includes Up/Down/Left/Right buttons below it to help manually align the red and green drawings.
- Cleaner images; minor positioning changes. The images in the “Mouthpiece B” green column have been cropped to remove borders/frames/artifacts, and the initial green overlay is now positioned closer to the red version. (100% initial overlay accuracy is challenging since the original "B" drawings aren’t consistently placed in the image canvas.)

It’s worth mentioning here that if you need precision and granularity on mouthpiece specs, you might also try looking into Vennture’s VennCAD desktop software. VennCAD displays very detailed measurements of each mouthpiece aspect, and that software and approach could easily eclipse the usefulness of the classic comparator in the long term. But for now, VennCAD’s scanned repository is comparatively limited at the moment; the software is available on Windows desktops only (no MacOS or mobile compatibility); and the company maintaining that software charges a $40 fee per mouthpiece scan. Though if everyone reading this donates one mouthpiece to the cause, VennCAD might get there faster!

Please send in your feedback! If you're a mouthpiece manufacturer and would like to submit your scans, reach out to me or send an email to the address listed on the site footer.

I've gotten some great feedback about the www.trumpet.cloud/mpc site since posting it late last week, and I want to share a quick update with you.

To make it easier to share these mouthpiece designs and your comparisons with others, I've added a "Copy Link to Clipboard" option as well as the ability to download your custom overlay to a PNG image file. You can also copy the URL from the address bar after making your A/B selection, as the address bar should now automatically update with your choices.

If you're a mouthpiece maker and are up to contributing similar-type scans to this project, shoot me a private message or send an email to the address listed on the site!
