I find 3B blends in with orchestra much more than 3C but low register can still be challenging on 3B so if on 2nd trumpet part could do with a 3. Of course the studies have notes from bottom G to high D. _________________ https://payhip.com/sheetmusicplayalong |

This is still how I feel about 3B. I like the tone from it but find it somewhat disappointing in the low range below bottom C. The tone becomes too thin and insecure there. The throat is really thin on the 3B, I wonder if that's part of the problem here?
So I'm looking for (let's stick with Bach mouthpieces) something for playing studies/solos (i) with darker tone than 3C (ii) is flexible enough from low F# to high D (don't need bright high range) (iii) not tiring _________________ https://payhip.com/sheetmusicplayalong |

I've been happy using a 'straight 7' (no letter) Bach mouthpiece. I've not tried any of the '3' size Bachs, but believe that their rim size and feel is very similar to the 7. _________________ Most Important Note ? - the next one !
KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'. |

I think a 3 would be great for lower trumpet parts in an orchestra and maybe I shouldn't have sold mine. I just found it tiring when trying to play solos and studies. 3B is OK for Hummel or Haydn where lowest note is a C. _________________ https://payhip.com/sheetmusicplayalong |

Have you ever tried the Bach 6B? There's even a 6BM with a "larger 26 throat, 24 backbone." To my lips these feel not too different than a typical 3C but a tad smaller which I find less tiring. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."
