Hey guys, I've been looking into getting an FE Olds Trumpet recently, as I the Strad 37 i'm using is borrowed from my school and I wanted a nice horn I can use after I graduate. I was wondering if there is any discernable difference in the quality/tone of Ambassador horns as compared to the Special horns, as by my understanding the Specials are a higher-tier horn. Also, is there actually a big difference between LA and Fullerton horns or is that just some purist thing? And did Olds instruments really get lower quality over time? Meaning are 60's horns any different from late 70's horns?
Thanks! |

No on the quality aside from the very end, I've worked on all of them from every era, the latest Ambassadors had bad brass... Brittle. It would crack. Valves seemed fine all through to the end. _________________ "There is no necessity for deadly strife" A. Lincoln 1860
