I have a Marcinkiewicz Bobby Shew 2 that I love for lead playing. Because I love the rim and feel of it, I'd love to have a piece made with the same rim profile and entrance to the cup, but make it a B cup for small group and classical playing.
Any suggestions on who to go to for quality custom pieces? |

Pickett and Austin Custom Brass are two other very fine options. _________________ 1932 King Silvertone cornet

Doug (lipshurt) does beautiful work, and Graham at Marcinkiewicz knows their catalog inside-out. Both could help. _________________ BKA! Mic Gillette was my mentor and friend.

So Marcinkiewicz got back to me an they're happy to make the piece I want.
Here's what I'm thinking: Bobby Shew Rim, between a C and B cup, 24/24 throat and backbore.
Since my main purpose for this piece is small group jazz and classical, would you recommend something different from what I'm thinking? All input welcome. |

Be sure to check out Frost Custom Brass!!
Matt Frost is an absolute whiz at this kind of thing! He's done some really strange and excellent custom work for me, and others I know, and his work is absolutely top notch! _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------------

Something to consider, this may not actually work as well as you hope.
Years ago I did a lot of playing in a wedding band on a Schilke 14A4, and it worked really well for that, so I thought that if I had Schilke make me a 14C4, I'd have the best of both worlds - I'd have basically a Schilke 14, but with the 4 profile rim - nice and comfortable, but deeper for a more legit sound.
It didn't work like I'd hoped it would, and I ended up giving that mouthpiece away to a kid who was trying to do all of his playing on a 13A4a - I figured for him it would be an improvement. _________________ Patrick Gleason
