Here is what looks like an Olds Super trumpet going for $1621 or more. Too bad my Olds Super cornets aren't worth a fraction of that.

Like Goby said, it is a Super Recording. And worth much more than $1600 IMO.

One of the best Martins I ever worked on was a Handcraft from 1940, model 1, small bore. That thing played like crazy. I'm of the belief that the inside tuning crook "rib" brace is one of the secrets of why those early Martins play the way they do.

Thank you for pointing out that "rib" brace, Lionel! I never paid much attention to that feature of the 40's Handcraft. Very interesting!

You're welcome. That's a future experiment for me, I have a horn that needs rebuilding and I'm going to try that feature.
Before WWII, that sort of brace was common, it was a reinforcement for the crook. But it also had other effects, possibly...

Oh, I see. The top view shows the staggered valves.

Interestingly, my YBB-104 student tuba has exactly the same staggering of the valves.

Those are some very nice-looking vintage horns. Even if the buyer overpaid, I hope they enjoy the instrument.

Did the earlier Super Recordings have one less brace on the third valve slide?

Oh man!! I love Selmer Paris trumpets. I was so sad when they discontinued them.
