This can't be accurate. I have an earlier KMI Silver Flair (without the third valve slide rings and with metal valve guides) and the bell diameter is 4.75". So if the late 70's KMI Silver Flairs had a bell 1/2" smaller in diameter that would make the bell 4.25" which is the same diameter as the bell on my 1936 Conn 40B Vocabell. There is a drastic difference between a 4.75" diameter bell and a 4.25" diameter bell. From about 1940 on I don't know of any horn with a 4.25" diameter bell.

Thanks for your input and I'm sorry if I'm mistaken here.
Since I'm from Europe I'm not used to use the inch scale.
I believe it was something about 8 mm, so maybe a 1/3'' then?

I imagine it will show up. But if not, you can have this

Maybe Beyond16 can tell us what exact bell diameter his Silver Flair has to settle the issue.
But as I remember both bells of my later KMI Silver Flairs were by a tiny little bit smaller.

Looking at pics I see what you mean. How do they sound different?

Concerning your question...they play similar but the later ones tend to sound a little bit tighter and brighter.

(Also, may I ask of you could do us a favor and delete this HUGE photo in your quote, please?)

All I did was quote the previous post.

Wow, Silver Flair 1055T's coming out of the woodwork now. Here's an even better one:

I put a bid on it. Doubt I win but hey. Worth a try.

You might get lucky. While shopgoodwill has so many people watching that a bargain is hard to find, the same isn't true for shopthesalvationarmy. The last 1055T on that site went for $34, though it had a completely smashed bell crook.

I don't want to point out every vintage pro horn that turns up. But I really made a mistake by not pointing out a Schilke trumpet on the SA site. It ended up going for something like $300. Someone got a deal.

Well looks like I won the auction. After shipping total is 403.00. Hopefully the horn is worth that.

I have a 1055T serial # 480*** (early 70's?) King Musical Instruments and it does not have those rings on the third valve slide. I have seen quite a few of these horns and never seen those rings. As far as I know all of the HN White and King Musical Instruments Silver Flairs were the same with the exception of the engraving on the mouthpiece receiver. I would not call myself an expert but I have played the HN White and King Musical Instruments versions and they play the same. Also never seen one with plastic valve guides.

I'm looking forward to the one I won on salvation army. Seller says it looks brand new, but I have no idea how the valves are. It's either a 66 or a 67 and uts a H.N White horn. I'll make the payment for it on Friday.

I think you will end up with an amazing deal. It looks like new, and better than mine for 2/3 the price. Even the case is in great condition. I have an Olds Super like that. When it arrived and I looked in the lead pipe, I couldn't believe how clean it was.

Seller said he should ship out today or tomorrow. Shipping g ups ground, so probably take forever to get here, but I'm pretty excited. I am still getting that super 20 from HN white , but this just delayed it a bit longer. I didn't actually expect to win it, but I'm pleasantly surprised I did.

You guys have fun with the other one. It's already more than I want to spend, plus not fond of gold trim.

Mine should be here tuesday.

The "ring" is a stop for the third valve slide. There's a small stud under the finger ring that stops against this ring around the tube. I believe the original stud on my Flair was nylon. The nylon stud broke off, so I replaced the finger ring with a replacement (by Getzen, I think) that has a metal stud instead.

I remember my king 600 had that. I got it in the 80s when I started band in 2nd grade. A white plastic ring on the 3rd valve finger ring hit it and prevented the slide from falling off.

Horn showed up today. Its in great condition. I need to get it by my tech and get him to do a cleaning on it as the slides are slow and the trigger is really heavy, but the valves are in amazing condition. There are a couple scratches here and there but nothing major and no real issues with the silver. Horn looks barely used. The case has some age but still in great condition. Its either a 66 or a 67 and a white horn so I am extremely thrilled. It plays great. Slots amazing and compression is excellent. Its a little tighter than my Bach, but not too bad. I prefer more open horns, but I dont feel like I am suffocating on it. Came with a CKB 3c mouthpiece and it looks great with it, just wish I could find a 1 1/2c ckb and a nice vintage king mouthpiece as well that felt great. I will use it in my lesson tomorrow then take it to my tech next week so he can start the work on it. Wish I didnt have to be without it for 2 weeks lol.

Got the horn back from my tech and it plays great. I love it all except the red finger buttons. Chris over at HN White is sending me a set of replacements then I am going to send this set of red ones off to Ewan Divitt to have the inlays replaced with synthetic opal. Im also planning on picking up a Lotus mouthpiece soon and hopefully that will fix some issues I am having with the Bach mouthpiece with my Bach trumpet and open up this horn a bit. So far I love this much more than I do my Bach.
