The second generation 8335LA (Wayne Bergeron) and 8330EM were finally officially announced. From talking with the players who test played the 8335LA, it’s a fantastic horn. The ‘best horn’ they’ve ever played as a couple of them said. Can’t wait to try them out.

If I'm not mistaking, Yamaha just came out with a new version of their Eric Mayashiro trumpet, too.

I guess 8340EM, (your third 3=ML bore, the 4 means largebore but with the EM it indicates multi bore) in Europe they are no longer available (for now?).

I just know that EM in 8330EM is for Eric Miyashiro. Hopefully it quickly becomes widely available across the globe.

It looks to me that the 8340EM is the earlier model, and the 8330EM is the new model.

The description of the 'step/multi-bore' design and measurements are different between the 2 models, along with other changes made to the new 8330EM.

The description of the 8340EM bore from catalog W215R15 EU, is

'Multi-bore
When the piston is not depressed, the trumpet has the same
bore structure as a B trumpet as M bore size. However when the
piston is depressed, the unique “multibore” structure reduces the difference in back pressure by passing through the L bore valve slide. "

PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'.

Yes, found the American site. It seems that they changed the Myashiro trumpet from an M multibore in an ML stepbore trumpet.
Looks good, I hope they solved the problem with the red rot in the leadpipe. Heard that that was a real problem.
Must be a great horn.

I know the bell on the EM has a larger diameter. Is the flair similar to the Shew (72ish)?

I just ordered a new bergeron. I'll let you know what I think of it, coming from tighter horns, should be interesting. I hope the efficiency is indeed improved.

Happy to report that the new 8335 La gen 2 is SUPER. It is not super wide open like the gen 1 was reported to be. Actual really efficient and a super sound. Love it.

Really great horn, more core than the 2nd generation Bobby Shew, I even use it for playing in church (with a Breslmaier G3 MP), for everything else the Shew Jazz MP.

I found the gen 2 LA to be really picky with mouthpieces, but once I found the combo that worked, it worked really well.

The 8335LA, gen 2, is a terrific horn. The changes made have helped to...refine...it without losing its character. It is a more versatile instrument than the gen 1, IMO. I think it is now one of Yamaha's best all-around options.

So what’s your MP pick ?
For me the Wick 3c and Breslmaier G3 work very well - to have a classical sound.

Yam Shew Jazz didn’t work well

My 8335GII is the shizz, the bees knees if you will. I can't see ever getting rid of it. Paired with a Lotus, for me, it's all I need.

I think Yamaha is doing North America customers a real disservice by not making their commercial trumpet model 6335-RC, worked up in Germany, more accessible to customers here.

It took me a while, and some help from other TH members to figure out how to get one ordered and shipped to the US, but I am pretty much overjoyed with how it plays and am using it for just about all my Bb playing now. Phenomenal horn.

It is "curious" why Yamaha is keeping the 6335RC from being sold in North America. It's been in Europe since late 2018. However, it is not that hard to get one from a European music store. Last Oct I received mine from London four days after placing the order. And probably cheaper, even with taxes and duties, than if it was being sold in the US.

I just played my friend's new Z trumpet and it's pretty awesome! Bright (maybe too bright?) but really great.
