The Father of American Orchestral Trumpet played the Viola. Many of the early trumpet players were exclusively playing on Bb trumpets including Louis Klopfel, Gustav Heim, Max Schlossberg and Harry Glantz. These trumpet players were heavily influenced by the German trumpet school. The man who introduced the large bore C trumpet was a Frenchman named Georges Mager not only was he a skilled violist he became the Principal Trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1919 to 1950. He taught many of the leading Orchestral trumpet players of the 20th century including; Bud Herseth, William Vacchiano, Bernard Adelstein, and Roger Voisin to name a few. Georges and his students set the benchmark for the development of the American Orchestral Trumpet style.
