Can a guard triple hold both a trumpet and flugelhorn or two trumpets and a piccolo? If not, what cases do? |

I have the Gard Elite Triple; that case can hold a ton of stuff. There's a video online where Jens Lindemann puts five horns in his, using the "taco" inserts. I use it mostly for flugelhorn+cornet. Right now mine has a flugel and an Eb/D in it, using one of the taco dividers.

The bags come with adjustable covered foam blocks. Use them. If they still don't keep the horn from moving, wrap a towel around it. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

The gard compact triple and elite triple both accommodate the configurations you mentioned.
I’ve flown with this case toting trumpet and flugelhorn internationally. Also, regularly carry Bb, C and Picc. recently, flew with that configuration.
I recommend the compact triple, but many recommend the elite. The videos you find will likely pertain to the elite. I believe the dimensions are the same
It’s still a gig bag, no dropping or serious bump protection. |

@Aspeyrer - I take it that you used overhead rack and not checked-baggage. Did you have any trouble fitting it in overheads and weren't you afraid of some moron cramming their suitcase smashingly right into your bag?
I've done a fair share of international travel, as well. That's why I'm asking. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

If you are worried about the dropping or bumps. a Protec ZIP triple is a good alternative option. _________________ Bb- Schagerl James Morrison Meister Trumpet

I highly recommend the Reunion Blues Continental triple. It’s compact but extremely protective with a very comfortable handle. Fits a full size trumpet, flugel, and piccolo no problem and the piccolo tucks in safety. I can also carry trumpet, flugel, cornet with no issues. Also it’s under $200! _________________ B-flat: Bach 37

Never issues with overhead, even on puddle jumpers. The gard triple offers a kind of “suspension” system where your bell and bow aren’t directly touching the bag lining. But, it’s a gig bag. I don’t want to give the impression that your horns will be cradled safely on a bumpy ride. I would not feel comfortable checking the gard triple. |

The old Torpedo Coyote did, as long as you had two different lids (or wanted to carry your laptop in the case as well. And, admittedly, didn't have a particularly tall flugelhorn).
I realize any thread about Torpedo cases will likely devolve into complaints about how the owner promised more than he delivered, and that's understandable.
My observation is that he let Perfect become the enemy of Pretty Darn Good, and that's a shame. My daily-driver case is a Coyote. _________________ J. Notso Nieuwguyski |
