Well, to that end - Reeves makes a trumpet mouthpiece which gives a trumpet a flugelhorn sound. (Purpose is to carry just a mpc instead of whole flugelhorn, when possible). I would contact Reeves and request a Purviance cornet/flugelhorn mpc be converted for use on a trumpet.

Assuming this is not for BBB, of course.

Removing the warning stickers plastered all over the mower.

No - really. This is classic example of product liability taught in business law classes.

As of now, a good pro quality Yamaha trumpet (such as a YTR-6335) costs almost as low as about 1/2 of the price of a good pro quality cornet (such as YCR-8335). In the 20th century the cornet and trumpet designs became closer and closer to each other. The differences are in the leadpipe and the wrap more than in anything else.

This brings a question: what would be needed to turn a YTR-6335 into a pro-level cornet without damaging the instrument?

Perhaps a Bob Reeves or GR cornet-to-trumpet mouthpiece adapter?

The difference is in the bell, leadpipe and of course the receiver.

A Curry TF or TC mouthpiece would be the easiest thing to do.
Seriously, one of the early Yamaha (Japan) student cornets would give you a better instrument than trying for a Frankenamahahorn. They really are that good. A valve alignment and a pro cornet mouthpiece and you could be ready to go .

This is kind of comparing apples and oranges. The 6335 trumpet is much cheaper than the 8335 trumpet and the same is true of the cornet. I think the 6335 cornet new is about 2/3rds the price of the 8335. The 6335 cornet is, I think, a ML bore and much lighter. It is uncommon in the US but sells at least in Asia.

Yeah, but this thread is a classic! Consider: In this one thread, we have (1) a post from the Captain that is less than 300 words long, and (2) a post from Scorpion that isn't a loopy attempt at comedy.

My dad tried doing the opposite. Got my mouthpiece stuck and he grabbed a couple shop rags and a pliers. Wrapped the mpc. with a rag, put the pliers on her and grabbed the bell and made me a herald trumpet in about three seconds. There is no way to describe how powerful my dad was when he was younger but he stretched the Conn Director a whole bunch. Glad he did that when I was in sixth grade cause one year later I was playing a 36b connstellation, Ahh, the memories.

One viable option to get a more conical sound from your trumpet is our Osmun 6V Mellophone mouthpiece, available here https://osmun.com/osmun-6v-mellophone-mouthpiece/

We also stock the Curry line of TF and TC mouthpieces in a variety of rim sizes.

I hope this is helpful, Happy Thanksgiving, one and all!

I read the link. The mouthpiece is for Mellophone. Are you saying that this Mellophone mouthpiece fits, and can be used, on a trumpet?

As I was first reading this OP, I immediately thought about Reeves, too, but not because of Reeves mouthpieces but Purviance, who Reeves handles. They have the original; tooling and Reeves was a Purviance protege.

I would call Reeves and tell them what your after and get a Purviance cornet mpc cut for trumpet.

Ah - memories. The father who decided he could solder his son's sax key post with a welding torch....

Mellophone: Kelly makes a 6V mellophone with a trumpet shank for $30. It's also available as a standard and short shank cornet mpc.

Thank you James!

I have found an indication that the trumpet and mellophone receivers are quite similar. Hickey's sells an adapter that converts French Horn mouthpiece to trumpet / mellophone receiver:
