I’ll bet the Conn 5 originally came with your 8B. I have a pristine 1960 Conn 6B Victor, and a Conn 5 came with it. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

I've used many flavors of 1.5C's over the years, and currently play a copy of a copy of Malcolm McNab's rim screwed onto a Toshi 1.5C/23/MV. |

Vennture, their Lede LV2S-B and some custom pieces covering tpt, cornet, picc, flugel, french horn and bone. On tpt, cornet, picc, flugel and FH I keep the same rim and the bone piece is based on the same rim. I play an ACB 3C most of the time. For "high and loud" I play a stork studio master XV6. |

My 1961 36B Connstellation came with a Conn 5. I believe the gold Connstellation mouthpieces were introduced with the 1962 models. _________________ C. G. Conn 60B Super Connstellation

After years on a GR e65M and Bach 3Cs, I am now playing John Hagstrom model on my Bach 190/37 and 239/25A. (It also works very well in my Schilke B1). The two I have are absolutely identical.
When I play piccolo, there is a GR/Haefner 7HXP in it with GR adaptors as needed.
Just in case they might be a better "fit" in certain situations, I carry the e65M and a Bach 5C (given to me by Roger Ingram) at all times.

Been playing most of the time on a Lotus 3LB.
Also have 3M, but haven't had a chance to work with it. |

I have a Bach 1.5C I sometimes use, but my main mouthpieces are Yamaha. 14B4 (basically a 3C), 14F4 (3 for Flugel), and a short shank 13E4 for cornet since they don't offer a 14E4 standard. _________________ YTR-6310Z- YTR-14B4 and Curry 1.5TF

I voted for GR.
I am adjusting to the GR Wayne Bergeron Studio mouthpiece, as I'm coming back after some years of not playing much. I'm using this mouthpiece because most of all I like the tone quality that I am able to achieve with it. it is clear and clean and pretty much everything I would ever want.
I also have the GR Bergeron Lead mouthpiece, and I also use the Marcinkiewicz Bobby Shew 2 mouthpiece _________________ Kanstul 1500 trumpet

Not changing mpcs, but, out of curiosity (Chet), I got a Bach 6B. It has a little more bite than my normal mpcs,, but very nice tone. Could be a nice piece for someone. . , , FWIW. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I’ve played a Reeves 42C for a year or two. I love the sound. C’ish cup depth but perhaps a bit inclined to a modified V’ish mix. With a 26 drill, it can yield just a bit of a breathy tone.
A recent competitor is Warburton’s 6MC cup with a 27 drill. A bit shallower than the Reeves, wit a definite bowl cup. It’s modified by Ken Titmus; a tad deeper, a little opened on the sides and throat… It’s a marvelous piece. Great sparkle to the tone.
Between the two, I’m happier than I’ve ever been with mouthpiece selection. _________________ Jonathan Milam

Is this "breathy tone" for just solo work, or do you use it for lead and section work? _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I'd use the 42C, playing softly and highlighting the breathy tone, strictly for solo. I'd use the Warburton MC if I were doing group or section play. _________________ Jonathan Milam

@kehaulani - I have a lot to learn about Mouthpieces! So much nuance
I play a 6B (6BM) and love them. Ive tried a ton of others and always come back. I don't know what "Bite" is ... is it easy to explain?? When talking to some folks about MPs, they described my 6B (BM) as "soft" .... Im looking for something like the 6B by other brands just to try out - the closest Ive come is an ACB MP and the Shew Jazz .... Any suggestions ?
Thanks |
