If I can only pick one, it would have to be BOBBY HACKETT on both trumpet and cornet.

Trumpet: If we're only going for "traditional" players, then Miles.
Cornet: Nat Adderley

Bonus: In the Latin Jazz world, Chocolate Armenteros. Limited amounts of his recording available, but his improv ability (I think) is up there with Miles and Wynton.

Totally agree about Mr. Davis!

Caught Ben several years ago on the Steamboat Natchez down in New Orleans. Was very impressed. Wasn't much into traditional jazz players at that point and then learned about his father, Ed. Clearly, the fruit did not fall far from the tree. That ended up being a really great evening as I got to see my dad's friend, the late Connie Jones, that evening and the great Bob Havens, on trombone.

Ben also plays keys for King james and the Special Men, a truly raucous NO R&B band. Killer great.

He also plays piano for Shotgun Jazz Band as well as subbing for Marla Dixon when she can't be there. Amazing talent.
