Thank you so much--the contour of the rim is just slightly different/ subtle enough to make it more comfortable on the chops ( for me) than my Bach 3 C Rim. And yes, easier to play while keeping good sound , flexibility, intonation...etc... better than optimized
Curry indeed does very good precision work----he's a player too and that also makes a world of difference in his products!! Ready to get the flugelhorn equipment finalized--- Curry 3 ?? ( FL or FLM)

I use a Curry 3C. on my Bb and paired a Curry 3FL with my Yamaha 6310 flugel. The FL darkens the tone considerably from the stock Shew mouthpiece and the rim is more comfortable. It's an easy transition from the 3C. to the FL.

Does the 3 FL allow you to " get around the horn" in playing changes--- up and down the registers?

I'm the wrong one to ask about how it works for improv. I use it for shows, church playing, etc. For those uses, it's great. It has a smooth sound from the low the staff up to the top, but the sound thins out above the staff a bit. I find that I am able to articulate well with it. The sound is dark and thick, but without being tubby.

Sounds like we play nearly the same venues except big band. Your info and answer are welcome news that I can rely upon
Thanks

I find the Curry 3FL-F ("French taper") quite easy to play on my Couesnon flugel. It's what led me to try a Curry 3C on my trumpet: so far, so good.

It doesn't feel as if I'm fighting the trumpet as much ... but I'm still getting used to it.
