Greetings,

I am looking for reputable trumpet repair providers. I have a couple stuck slides, but I am also looking to have the silver redone and a full refurbishment at some point. This is for a Bach 37, so I would rather wait and get it done right than have a less than good job performed.

If you want it done thoroughly and correctly, go to Jim Becker at Osmun Music. The plating, BTW, will probably be sent out to Anderson's.

Any good trumpet builder can do that. Assuming you’re in the US: Osmun, Del Quadro, Landress, …

Not to mention other top-drawer brass experts like Charlie Melk, Mark Metzler, Steve Winans (Doctor Valve), Robb Stewart (although I think he might be easing into retirement), etc.

You might take proximity into consideration, depending on your location.

Jim Becker (Osmun Music) has my vote as well. Top notch work, and good communication during the process. Charlie Melk (Charlie's Brass Works) and Steve Winans (Dr. Valve) have also done excellent work for me.

If you want to get the horn back into playing shape now and then do a full overhaul later, your local repair tech can handle stuck slides, dents and that kind of thing.

I can recommend Steve "Dr Valve" Winans, Rich Ita, and Dana Hofer.

All have done a great job for me over the years.

Steve and Dana have shops in the Chicago area. Rich is in Georgia.

If you're looking for a bargain on refinishing, consider Mike Pawluk who has an Ebay store. Find it by searhing "refinish trumpet" on eBay.

I've had 4 horns refurbished in recent years.

The first 3 horns were done by Kanstul, which sadly, is no longer in business. They did all work in-house, including lacquering, plating, rebuilding valves. (For me, this was a big plus.) They refurbished my 1957 Olds Ambassador, 1974 43* Bach, and 1980 CML Bach. They were the most affordable. And for me, they were the best.

The 4th horn was refurbished by Mark Metzler (https://www.metzlerbrass.com). I believe Mark does all work in-house, except for plating. He did a great job refurbishing my 1965 Bach Stradivarius.

Plus a few other Bach, Getzen, Olds, Carol, HN White, and Besson horns.

I've had great success with Best Instrument Repair in Oakland, California. Bryan Morgan has done outstanding work for me time and time again.

Southeastern Musical Services in Huntsville, Alabama. Top shelf work and very reasonable prices. They’ve completely rebuilt 3 horns for me (a Mt. Vernon Strad trumpet, Olds L-12 flugelhorn, and Conn 5A Victor cornet), and have done custom and general repair work on numerous others. Here’s the Olds L-12…
