AULD LANG SYNE arranged by Kyle Myers

Our final video of 2020 and you’re DEFINITELY going to want to watch ALL the way to the end... that is - if you like bloopers!

You asked for high notes - We gotch yer high notes!

You asked for Gospel - We gotch yer Gospel!

You asked for fireworks - We gotch yer fireworks!

You asked for more bloopers - We gotch yer bloopers! (You’ll want to watch ALL the way to the end...)

You asked for something other than trumpets - We gotch yer drums and... ORGAN!?

Let me and all of us in this completely San Diego-based crew of musicians be the first to say to you...”Happy New Year!”

As we close out 2020, it’s easy to look back and think about what a horrible year it has been for so many of us - particularly those of us in the performing arts.

We don’t want to discount that, but we also want to challenge all of us to find something positive that has come out of 2020. For me, I’ve deepened a friendship with Tim Saeger along with many of the amazing musicians you’ve seen us partner with over the last weeks and months. Also, I’m grateful to have virtually met and engaged with so many of you from our online audience!

If you’ve been following along these last few weeks, we hope these videos serve to
1. Inform - performing artists are still here and still trying to create in the face of adversity.
2. Inspire - whether it’s through music or the videography, we hope you’ve found some measure of hope and joy in this holiday season.
3. Educate - whether you’re a trumpet player or other musician or an educator - amazing things can be created from peoples living rooms when people - with the right skill set and the right attitudes - collaborate.
4. Entertain - Though everyone you’ve seen on these videos is a professional musician and each has dedicated their lives to honing and perfecting their musical skills, we don’t make these videos for each other - we make them to share our love of all different kinds of music with you, our online audience. And we’ve hope you’ve had some fun watching these!

It’s with these things in mind that we bring you our final video of 2020: Auld Lang Syne.

And now, our all-San Diego based team:

Tim Saeger on Lead Trumpet, also serving as audio and video engineer, and did he ever outdo himself on this one!

The San Diego Symphony trumpet section which includes John Wilds, Ray Nowak, and me - Chris Smith.

The good doctor, John Reynolds - a San Diego-based jazz musician and educator at the Orange County School of the Arts.

And from the San Diego Symphony percussion section, Erin Dowrey on drums.

Finally, we’re incredibly grateful to have San Diego-based organist Bobby Cressey join us for this project! Bobby is one of the most versatile keyboardists on the west coast. As a performer, he can be found in many of the recording studios here in SoCal and as a composer, his music can be heard on television, movies, and video games. Bobby is also the organist for the the San Diego Padres here at Petco Park in downtown San Diego!

Thank you, Bobby and one last GIANT thank you to Kyle Myers for agreeing to partner with us these last few weeks and for this incredible arrangement of Auld Lang Syne!

Happy New Year and we look forward to a better, brighter, and more hope-filled 2021!

Alright, Bobby - lead the way and get us outta 2020!
