I did a trumpet literature survey a number of years ago and remembered coming across a really obscure concerto by a Kazakh composer, Erkegali Rakhmadiev. I was doing my masters at the time and was able to get ahold of the score to it through interlibrary loan, and I even remember being able to find a recording of it, but after going back and looking again, it seems that the piece has apparently vanished.

Supposedly, it's a full concerto for trumpet and orchestra, written in 1982. The composer has a Scherzo for trumpet that was published in 1966, but it's not the work I remember.

Curious to know if anyone has ever heard of the piece or knows if it was ever actually published in a fashion where it might be obtainable.

Some poking around led me to this record:
https://www.worldcat.org/title/trubagha-arnalghan-skertso/oclc/6301684&referer=brief_results

Title is either
Trubagha arnalghan skertso
or
Skertso dli︠a︡ truby

Sound right, maybe? Everything else I found looked like an opera or violin solo.

It's on the shelf at the UCLA.
https://search.library.ucla.edu/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma9927950143606533&context=L&vid=01UCS_LAL:UCLA&lang=en&search_scope=MyInstitution&adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&tab=LibraryCatalog&query=any,contains,Trubagha%20arnalghan%20skertso&offset=0

And I found a mention of a recording from 1970, MELODIYA D 027971-2, if you can find that.

Another option, there's a listing on wikipedia which mentions your composer, but no other information:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trumpet_repertoire
I can find nothing else about this one though.

I love these posts about obscure repertoire - what a great way to learn about forgotten pieces!

I'm sorry to say I don't know the composer or work you are looking for, but did stumble upon a bit of info on the web. It appears as though the composer's name is written "Еркегали Рахмадиев" or "Еркегали Рахмадиұлы" and the entry for him on Kazakh Wikipedia lists the work as "оркестрмен ойнайтын кернейге (1982)."

This didn't help so much, nor did searching for the composer's name and the word 'trumpet' in Kazakh (кернейге, I think!), but a search in Russian (труба) revealed a "Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra" (Концерт для трубы с оркестром) and "Concert Scherzo for Trumpet and Orchestra" (Концертное скерцо), both recorded by Yuri Klushkin (Юрий Клушкин) on LP (alongside Haydn and Arban's Carnival of Venice).

It appears Northwestern University has the score but I couldn't find anywhere with the album.

Thanks for introducing me to this composer and these two pieces. Hopefully that brings you one step closer to finding what you're looking for. Please report back if you have positive progress because I'd love to learn more!

TH isn't letting me make links with Cyrillic characters, so here are the sites I came across:

There are a couple of Youtube channels that are comprised of audio of trumpet literature and video of the sheet music, and a few of those channels have been going deep down the rabbit hole of obscure trumpet literature over the last few months. Searching for something like "trumpet sheet music" will probably reveal them quickly. In case they aren't being fully up with copyright restrictions on the sheet music, I don't want to say their channels directly. But they aren't very hard to find...

Digging around with the Cyrillic version of things helped -- I was able to come across a Russian website where the digitized version of the album was stored and I was able to sift through a mountain of spam to find the actual MP3 files.

The specific address is here:
https://dydki.info/song/1829461059.1296794083-YUrij_Klushkin_-_E.Rahmadiev_Koncert_dlya_truby_s_orkestrom.html

BEWARE -- the above link does have download buttons which will spawn popups (or new tabs). Some of these tabs are truly spam or phishing websites that will claim your browser is out of date, so just close those. If you use Chrome's inspect mode (right-click on a blank portion of the page and select Inspect or press F12 with that window active) and dig through the HTML on the page with the large, blue "DOWNLOAD" button, you can directly access the MP3 files from the original vinyl LP. Obviously, the LP isn't available at all in the States and was likely an incredibly small release, so finding physical copies of it are probably nigh-impossible.

I pulled down what was labeled as the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, and while it doesn't quite sound like what I remember, it's also been 10 years since I heard it.

I'll have to see if I can figure out how to get my hands on the score from Northwestern without a university interlibrary loan account to verify that the recording is the right one, but this is a step in the right direction!

Well, that was unpleasant. Here's all the audio files from that page, in a 50Mb zip file.

I use Chome on my PC for most of my surfing. Long ago when I needed to wade into unsavory territory would use Safari where I disabled Java, scripting, and everything else I knew was being exploited. It made most pages look and work like crud but it prevented a lot of the pop-overs, pop-unders, redirects, search engine hijacks,... It's been a long time since I had to do it and I can't say if that still works.

I just filed an interlibrary loan request for this score. I'll post back if I get it.

Not sure about the one you are looking for, but Ruslania Music in Helsinki has a fair amount of music from composers that were in the Soviet Union. Might be worth checking there as well.

I just got notified that this is available for me to pick up at the Sibley Library. We're still off school due to Omicron but I'll pick it up next week.

Thanks to Arizona State University I've got something in my hands here, but it's not what you're after at all. It's a 1978 Russian publication containing three concerti, for trumpet, trombone, and oboe, by three different composers. The trumpet concerto is by Б. Благовидов or Boris Blagovidov.

Translated bio of Blagovidov; https://www-unn-runnet-ru.translate.goog/rus/univers/ngk/rus/pers_pages_blagovidov.html?_x_tr_sch=http&_x_tr_sl=ru&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc
