Looking for advice on using play alongs and dealing with copyright issues. I would like to play in my front yard using play along books that I have purchased. The books also include wording along the lines of "using this material for internet posting, public performance" is an infringement of copyright. I wondering why I bought the book if it can only be used in my practice room. Any suggestions on what books/cd to purchase to solve this problem? Thanks.

I'd be surprised if the copyright police caught you in your front yard!
And if you are going to post it, I think it's ok as long as you provide the disclaimer
that you don't own the rights to those songs...and also that you are not getting
monetarily compensated either? Not a Youtuber, so not sure about this...

I feel like there was a discussion of busking and copyright but I can't find it now.

In your front yard you're essentially just practicing on your own property. I can't see an issue with that.

I also would be surprised if anyone would go after you. I suppose you could write to the publisher for permission for a specific performance (if you're playing for money/public performance).

Unless you are charging for your performance, I don't think it would be an issue. You are also not reproducing the materials, correct?

There are many ensembles that buy copy protected materials and then play them in concerts. That's the reason you purchase them.

Busked off and on since they began making play-alongs and never had a legal problem.
