I’m curious about the long term affects of COVID-19 for us as trumpet players. Have any of you gotten it, recovered, but noticed it has messed up your lung capacity or changed the way things feel when you blow?
If so, what exercises have you found to be most helpful in dealing with this (since this is a pedagogy form)?
I request that we stay on trumpet-related topic here. No politics about vaccines etc. please. _________________ Justin Dickson

Thankfully no. My brother recovered in 3 weeks. I just had delta and was so bad on day seven the gave me the monoclonal infusion which made me start feeling way better within 48 hours, the cough only lasted two weeks. _________________ -marc melton

I've had COVID. It had zero effect on my trumpet playing. I was playing within a few days, and within a few weeks, I was back to running several days a week. YMMV. |

I didn't feel like playing for over two weeks. When I started up again I would have a coughing attack if I tried to compress so took it pretty easy for another two weeks. |

My family got COVID a day or 2 after Christmas. "Sick" lasted a week, fatigue (severe) lasted another week. I played my Irons lip slurs every day as maintenance. No issues. Who knows if we had COVID-original, COVID-delta, COVID-omicron. It seems to hit us all differently. I had no respiratory issues, neither did my wife and kids.
Not a doctor. And if I played one on TV I'd be able to buy some more horns. _________________ Bach190ML43

Hey Justin - long time no see.
I have had it twice. I have no long-term effects and experienced mild symptoms (headache, the hacking cough, etc) for around 7 days each time. I took 2 weeks off each time due to a lingering cough. _________________ www.mikesailors.com |

I’m just now getting over it. Had a bit of hard time breathing, actually quite bad while deep in the sickness. Pretty scary since I’m in extremely good cardiovascular shape, I can definitely understand how this thing can kill people with even mild breathing problems. Now I’m back to playing 2-4 hour gigs and loving life, thankful for every second! No negative effects on playing that I have yet discerned… |
