|

Hi everyone! Hope all is well, and that you're all safe from the craziness in the world right now.
I'm just looking to see opinions on the best MacBook for college under 1,000. I'll be majoring in music education and am starting this fall. I've been thinking about a new/almost new 13.3 inch MacBook with a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel i5 and 256GB. Not sure if that will be sufficient for the music programs I'll need to run. What do you all think? Let me know. |

Most universities / colleges / degrees have a suggested device list for the student. It would include the device needs (minimums) and software that will be used. Plus, the school quite often have a shop (the book store) that provides discounts and support (support might be very important)
For me, really hard to go wrong with a Mac. I might look for one with more storage - 500GB or 1TB.
If the unit you mentioned is available and cheap you could always put in a larger hard drive - 500 SSD's are cheap-would speed up the machine and pretty easy to DIY. (instructions available online).
Don't bother with a printer, libraries have printing services and over a 4 year degree the number of things my 2 kids printed was extremely small. Most things are online or file transfers. _________________ Freelance Performer/Educator

I’m no computer expert, and I recently opted for a new Mac desktop as opposed to a laptop.
That said, I just want to make you aware that Apple has a very good deal for the ProTools Bundle just for students, if you didn’t already know. I’ve loved using Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro, especially given the current conditions. |

Hi, first of all, I would like to know what budget you are counting on. After all, laptops can be of different configurations, and therefore, the price will vary significantly. The only thing I can advise you already at this stage is mandatory backups of everything you have on your computer. I neglected this, and at some point, I could lose all the data and files on my computer. Thank God I found the service in time salvagedata.com and the guys from there helped me recover all the data. Please don't repeat my mistakes, guys

An external drive might be a wise choice. First, it would provide a way to archive work to hedge against hardware failure or just accidental deletes.
Second, it wouldn’t require opening up the machine.
That said, I have upgraded the disks in many notebooks and desktops and it is fairly simple, especially with online instructions and how to videos. |

I seem to remember that it is only one post now. But I have no idea how to confirm my memory. |
