Bach vs. Bach vs. Shires

Hey all,

I thought you might be interested in this video I made comparing my personal Bach C trumpet, a Bach C190 C trumpet, and a Shires 4S8 C trumpet. I played a bunch of excerpts and let the horns speak for themselves. If you do watch it, let me know if you can figure out the order on the mystery excerpt!

Thanks! I hesitated to check out the video at first - thinking it was just another joker out to promote his horn selection.

Well done. And as I commented on YouTube I enjoyed just listening to you play - beautiful on all 3 trumpets.
Bonus, I think you reinforced my choice of C's - now I need to go practice.

FYi - I was 6 out of 7, picking the Shires vs. one of the Bach's, and 4 of the 7 getting the Bach right .

I won't say which is my guess for the mystery trumpet.. I don't want to ruin my stats.

Beautiful playing! . . . my conclusion . . . Ryan sounded great regardless of the minor differences between the three horns.

I feel more interested in reading Ryan's own impressions as to the ease of expression and intonation and whether there existed any aspect on any of the three horns that he did or did not like or that challenged him.

There had been parts that was hard to distinguish your bach from the shires.

Also really suprised how much the horns changed based on what was being played. softer vs louder really changes the sound shape though the passages.

The Bach 190 had some more weight to it on the Lower notes and on the one with fast toughing, it was apparent that the other two horns sounded smoother though those sections. Honestly not sure if I liked it better for that or not, but the note separation was more profound to me. The 190 had would call crisper articulations in general. However, tuning on low D for C190 seemed like it required more work to bring it in line after the initial landing.

Wild guess: C190, your bach, shires.

So the real question is, is that silver bell worth the cost of entry over the shires?

What’s the feedback on your side if the bell versus what’s coming out on the end we can hear?
