Hello,

I have been asked to play lead on a production of Follies. I have listened to the cast album and watched the 2011 revival on Youtube. It seems as though there is quite a bit of down time with the woodwinds and strings doing their thing.

I would appreciate it if anyone could fill me in on range, endurance and if there is flugelhorn.

Thank you,

Richard Garretson

Not a show I've done, but the licensing website indicates 3 trumpets plus one on stage and no mention of flugel or other doubling.

There are also 3 trombones (and one on stage) and a horn plus 5 woodwinds plus strings so it's not a small orchestra.

After a little poking around I'm seeing that there is another Follies if you count Will Rogers Follies. That show I'm seeing some posts on but I'm finding no posts in a quick search of the Sondheim show.

I have played a customized version of Follies that was greatly reduced not only in the number of musicians but also all the tunes to fit a very small theatre.

That being said my experience doesn't let me give you any inside info or help. But it's Sondheim, so there should be some nice stuff to play.

Have fun & let us know what your experience was!
