I have a few Bb trumpet weights to share (no mouthpiece). The weight given for the Adams A4 SC and A1 Gen I are not exact but very close.

Adams A1 Gen 1 yellow brass bell-36.40 oz.
Adams A2 yellow brass bell-39.45 oz
Adams A4 SC gold brass bell-46.15
Yamaha 8345II in lacquer-37.50
Manchester Brass RL GB-36.60
XO-RV (Japan) gold brass bell-38.55 oz.

The digital kitchen scales they make today are super accurate (as I found out when I helped my kid build his Pinewood Derby car for Cub Scouts) and not the least bit expensive!

Getzen Eterna Severinsen: 36.26 oz.

I sold the Adams A1 and the A4 SC. I have been using the XO-RV from Japan for playing out. But, I just received the Adams A2 and will be using it this week for concert band and big band.

Oxo Good Grips 11lb Digital Scale wins with America's Test Kitchen year after year. I use it for baking, marinades, burger patty size, more often that you would think. Easily toggles from whole grams to a fraction of imperial units, and has a tare feature so you don't have to subtract the weight of a plate/bowl. This device along with a Thermapen from ThermoWorks are the digital work horses in my kitchen.

Of course digital jeweler scales can measure to the fraction of a gram. I'm not sure why that would be necessary with a trumpet, though.

Bottom Line: You could easily weigh a trumpet with a digital scale with incredible accuracy, and then weigh out the ingredients to make a plate of delicious scones.

That's an interesting list. Could've used it this last year and saved me a lot of money.

BTAIM, I could swear that my Benge 3X weighs more than my Yamaha Shew Z. (Benge 3X=951g - Yamaha Bobby Shew=962g). Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

Maybe the Shew is better balanced than the Benge; that is, the weight distribution ahead of and past your left hand as it grips the valve block is closer to 50/50. I've found that the less balanced a horn is, the heavier it feels (subjectively).

I bought one off of Amazon -- seemed to be highly rated -- for about $20. It is marked "Salubre". Has about a 6" x 6" platform for what needs to be weighed. Seems to be accurate to 1 or 2 one-hundredths of an ounce. I use it for cooking, for mailing and for the aforementioned Pinewood Derby cars. Plenty precise for trumpets, lol.

It is amazing to me, quite frankly, what some of these digital gadgets are capable of nowadays... and for such a small cost.

Same...pretty cool comparison!

11xxx 955g
16xxx 1012
18xxx 978
22xxx 964
640xxx 1074

I have a bunch of Benges I've weighed also, quite a difference between
Burbank and LA's for the most part.

Just weighed my trumpets. Hard to believe that the Leblanc and Signet weigh identical. Weighted twice to confirm.

With all these trumpet weights, is there some conclusion to be drawn?

Is the weight of the horn directly related to some characteristic of the sound? To the comfort level of a player after a long gig?

I would have thought other considerations would be just as important to the sound, and the balance more important to the comfort. So, what is the value in knowing the comparative overall weights? I'm not trying to be snarky, just trying to learn why you think this is important. Thanks.

A heavier instrument will have higher inertia and will therefore vibrate differently than a similarly shaped instrument.

Whether that is good or bad is up to the player. It just depends on what the desired tonal characteristics are, resistance/impedance characteristics are, and the playing style of the player. Placement of the weight within the instrument matters, too, but is beyond the scope of this thread.

For me, heavier horns tend to define slots, decrease flexibility, add resistance in the upper register, and will hold the tone together at loud volumes. A lighter horn goes in the opposite direction of those characteristics. I tend toward heavier instruments (for Bb and C - usually about 50% heavier than the standard major offerings). Great players I know feel like they are playing a brick when they try my horns. When I try theirs, I feel like I am sliding around on ice skates and never feel secure.

YMMV.
