I've had it for many years, I attribute it to many years of playing in bands with a lot of amplification. Honestly, I don't notice it often (until just now while reading this thread!).😉
I have tried over-the-counter remedies, but have found nothing that really helps. It does seem as though alcohol exacerbates it, but since I am an occasional beer-once-in-a-while drinker, it's not very problematic.
The best thing for me is to ignore it, although I know that's not always possible for everybody, and easier said than done in some cases.

I can handle the hearing loss. That can be fixed with money. The T can't and after a year it is getting worse. Sound Retraining Therapy for 2 months now with some negligible positive affect. |

Might add that I, as Bob Stevenson above, also tried acupunctur, administered by a (no surprise) chinese doctor. It was not an altogether pleasant experience, now and then the needles were felt like, eh, needles, but on the whole I found that it was helpful; sometimes the damn thing was beyond/outside my awareness for days; today it is here again, but there is a definite co-varians with exposure to loud music; always more intrusive after concerts and rehearsals. But I learned it could be influenced - a most stress-lessening experience. I mean - if I fell into the trap of thinking "I just canīt do anything, I am cast out to this forever". Ughh!
I think the trick must be "active non-awareness" - getting absorbed in whatever so as to make you accustomed to periods of non-awareness.

I have tinnitus in both ears and hearing loss in one. Wearing a hearing aid in that one ear reduces the tinnitus in both over time, and that persists even when I remove the hearing aid.
My tinnitus sounds like summer insects, high pitched, both chirping and steady singing. I also hear very low pitched rumble, especially at night when there are no other noises. I have been convinced that this is actual sound and not my tinnitus, but since my wife does not hear it, I can't confirm this. I have turned off the power to the whole house and I still hear it, and I am believe it is transmitted through the ground, if in fact it isn't generated by my brain.
I have been able to ignore the high pitched stuff, though it wasn't as easy when I first developed it. I guess I have just become accustomed to it.
I believe the genesis was loud gunfire noise exposure during my Vietnam service. I was on a destroyer and we fired our 5" guns a lot, and one time I was not inside, but outside (where I was not supposed to be) and the shock wave from the guns was very intense.
Now that I have been writing this the insects are louder again! _________________ veery715

Yoga meditation morning and evening. Take ginkgo and gotu kola together in one formula, take 1 cap 2 times per day. Ginger and turmeric should be taken together 1 cap of each 2 times per day. Borage oil 2 caps 2 times per day. Drink 1-2 glasses daily of Simply Orange with vit. D and calcium added.

They give my sound and other instruments a strange vibrato feedback. I have custom musicians earplugs to protect my ears from further damage, but they are so hard to play with. I can play for short periods with a practice mute but that is not going to work forever. I can not practice at home without the T driving me crazy.
What works for you? Thanks
(yes I have been to several specialists) |

Some medications make tinnitus to appear or worsen. Blood thinners, antidepressants and others as well. Do you take treatment for anything? |

Hello. I have tinnitus for 1 year. The doctor said it might be from earwax. Do you think earwax can cause tinnitus? |

Yes. I had some mild tinnitus, and my ENT doctor said it might be that in my case. He removed the wax buildup in my ears, and the tinnitus went away. _________________ "He that plays the King shall be welcome . . . " (Hamlet Act II, Scene 2, Line 1416)

I have tinnitus. I also have significant permanent hearing loss, which my doc says is the cause of tinnitus for most people at least. As it was explained to me, tinnitus is "white noise" the brain itself creates to keep itself busy when it isn't getting sufficient input from the ears.
Knowing that informs how I mitigate it. When I'm actively listening to something, say music or myself trying vainly to make music, the tinnitus is barely a problem at all. When I'm doing anything else that requires concentration, the tinnitus is minimized. The tinnitus really bugs me when I'm just quietly relaxing. It seems like a jet engine when I'm lying in bed just before sleep. So to the extent I have the energy for it, I try to keep busy and engaged. _________________ -Ed |

The first rule about Tinnitus is to not talk about Tinnitus.
Failing that, check out this video. It works, at least temporarily:
