Years ago I had a Blackburn leadpipe in A for my Yamaha 9830 and I loved the change it made to the instrument. Either through lending and losing it or losing it on a house move I lost the Blackburn pipe and so have been making do with just extending the Bb pipe to the suitable tuning which works fine but I miss the nuances of the Blackburn feel and sound.
With some important piccolo work coming up later in the year I thought it would be time to invest in a Blackburn pipe again, the price seems reasonable but the shipping to the UK sends the overall price way out of my budget before I even think of the tax due here on arrival.
So I’m open to alternatives, what piccolo leadpipes have you experimented with? Pros cons and prices please if you can remember.
Many thanks folks!
Jim

Why not consider the Yamaha A length pipe? The Blackburn is great but I’ve always preferred the stock Yamaha A pipe. Pulling out a Bb length pipe to A has less than ideal playing characteristics, in my opinion.

I've had a Yamaha 9830 for more than 15 years, and love the Blackburn A pipe on it...much more than the stock Yamaha pipe. I haven't found one I've liked better...so I'd still try to get one, maybe used?

Interestingly enough, I also have a Blackburn Bb pipe as well, but much prefer the Yamaha Bb pipe. Go figure.

I live in the States but I would be shocked if there weren't an alternative in the EU. I don't know who it would be though... Sorry.

If you are in Europe: Beck in Germany makes very interesting leadpipes - both for piccolo trumpets and flugelhorns. They come in different shapes and you can contact him to specify what you intend to change in comparison to the original leadpipe: brighter, warmer, intonation.

Mark Geelen (MG Trumpets) in the Netherlands makes custom leadpipes as well. He recently made one for my flugelhorn and I'm quite happy with the results (even made it look like an original part).
