Does anyone know who made Bush Mouthpieces?
Irving himself? Carroll Purviance "ghosting" them? Anyone else? Thanks.
p.s. I don't mean who makes them today. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

I read that the originals may have been made by Bob Reeves. No documentation to back that up though. _________________ BrassHistory.net

Just had a nice conversation with Mike.
Bush mpcs were introduced in 1959. Only two people have made them.
It started with Larry Frank. Larry worked at the Benge factory at 1122 W. Burbank Ave, Burbank CA. Irving Bush went to Larry who then made the Bush mpcs in his brother's shop, which was very near the Burbank factory.
Larry made them until 1985 when Jim New took over, making them at the Kanstul factory, first in Fullerton, CA then in Anaheim.
Jim left Kanstul and went on his own...I think 2001-ish. He was in SoCal for a while and now he's in Hurricane, UT., making mouthpieces for several brands. _________________ Tim Wendt

Is there an easy way to tell whether you have one of the originals versus one of the James New ones...? |
