I am looking for a horn to use in big band (not lead). I have played a Bach 43 Ltwt, large bore for several years, but as I have aged I feel the need to go back to something like the Getzen Eterna Severinson that I played forr years.
Any thoughts?

I personally really love my vintage Kings. A lot of big names used them back in the days of big bands.

A Conn Constellation or Adams A6 comes to mind.

I think you answered your own question; the Getzen Severinsen Eterna. You don't mention if you have a limited budget, or want a new horn. There are usually several used examples at any moment on eBay at affordable price points, Getzen produces updated versions now, I believe, and there are certain of the older 700 Eterna lines with the regular brass bell and leadpipe that are very much like the Severinsen horns that can be had at bargain prices. You might consider those options.

The Getzen 900DLX and 907DLX are terrific horns to consider if you like the Eterna Severinsen. Beyond that, so many horn to choose from. Visit music stores and try as many horns as you can. Good luck!

Yes, a Getzen Eterna Severinson, LOL.

If you want to go new, the latest version of the Eterna, the Getzen Eterna Classic, comes closest to the original but it's new, comes with a warranty, etc.

The linked wwbw.com is for information. wwbw is out of stock but, if you're interested, you can check around.

As an afterthought, and my first choice would still be for you to go with the Eterna Classic, but you might also consider a Benge. There are a lot of good choices out there.

Or a Kanstul 991;-) Very nearly a Connstellation 38B clone,* but decades newer and, IMO, a bit easier to play. On the one 38B I've had the chance to play, the notes above high C are spaced so closely together that it's really easy to miss by a whole step. It's almost like that first time you pick up a French horn as a trumpet player and go "Woah! Those notes are close together"). On the 991 the notes above high C are spaced closer than a Bach, but not so close as the 38B. Just close enough to make everything easier to play.

No, I'm not selling mine! It's maybe my favorite arrow in the quiver.

*The Kanstul marketing says the 991 is an exact copy of Snooky Young's 38B, but Kanstul didn't do nickel plating so it's silver plated, and obviously Kanstul didn't make their valves out of whatever Conn's "Krysteel" valves are made out of, but otherwise the bore, bracing, bell size, etc. are the same. Plus it's a copper leadpipe so no fears about used trumpet red rot. It's at least a few ounces lighter than the 38B, probably owing to the lack of nickel plating, and a super efficient, very fun, quite mouthpiece-sensitive trumpet. Kinda like Trent's old videos of the 10A and 28A mouthpiece versatility, the 991 can cover the gamut from piercingly bright to flugel-dark with a few mouthpieces.

I went from playing a Connstellation in H.S. and college to a Severinsen, professionally. Not saying you wouldn't like a Connstrllation or one of the clones, a Kanstul or Adams. Try it, you might like it. I love the Conn but just know it's not a substitution for a Severinsen.
