Hi everyone,

A colleague and I are putting together a recital program for saxophone and trumpet. The Jean Rivier Concerto is on our radar.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for trumpet, saxophone, and piano/organ? We would also consider slightly larger groups, trio/quartet and piano/organ. Looking for pieces more in the 'classical' or 'romantic' genre.

Thanks for the help!

Stefan Wolpe Quartet. One of the hardest pieces I’ve ever played, but totally worth it.

I have a CD that has two selections for trumpet, saxophone and piano:

Quiet City by Copland and

and a delightful Suite for Trumpet, Alto Sax and Piano by Seymour Barab.

The CD was put out by a sax player named Christopher Brellochs about 10 years ago. The notes say that the original instrumentation for Quiet City was trumpet, sax and piano. I guess that was for the stage production. Brellochs adapted it for performance. I haven't looked to see if you can get the sheet music.

The CD is on the Sono Luminus label.

Thanks for the reference to that Youtube version. That is the traditional version using piano and sax and is great.

Just to clarify, the CD version I have apparently adapts the stage music. It is somewhat different. Eg there is a theme used that was later used by Copland in the Our Town Suite. It runs about 13 and half minutes. I forgot that there is also a part for clarinet.

Btw, the trumpet player is Donald Batchelder who was principal in the NYC Opera Orchestra and he sounds terrific.

It's Copland, so either version would be great.

“Ghost Dialogues” by Lance Hulme. Chris Gekker included it on a CD a few years ago. https://soundcloud.com/lance-hulme/sets/ghost-dialogues-for-trumpet
