So we are clearing off some shelves before year end looking to get rid of some odds and ends. We have a grab bag of horns that were used as sales rep samples. They were pulled back due to their age or in some cases because they are discontinued models we no longer produce. I'd much rather they make it into the world than letting them collect any more dust.

I just listed them on our Reverb store yesterday. https://reverb.com/shop/getzen-company-factory-direct

Live listings include:
2 - 593 Capri Herald Trumpets
1 - 3916S Custom Series Piccolo
1 - 800LB Eterna Series Cornet
2 - 3001MV Custom Series "Mike Vax" Trumpets (1 silver, 1 lacquer)
1 - 700SP "Special" Trumpet
3 - 481 Student Cornets
2 - 390 Student Trumpets
1 - 580 Capri Cornet

They are all in really good condition. A few have some minor dents/scratches. Sold as is, price based on age and condition, free shipping. What's not to like?

Endorsement: I bought an Eterna under these conditions via Brett and it was like new, but at a reduced price. Nothing about it cried "seconds". Good deal.

First of all, I have to protest. Brett should not advertise these tempting offers, unless he's willing to convince my wife as well. (Just kidding.)

I'm a big fan of Getzen horns, and own an Eterna Flugelhorn, Eterna Piccolo, and Field Trumpet. I may be biased, but those two Mike Vax trumpets are the cream of the crop.

Just give her the facts. You would patronizing a family owned, American company. Getting a great deal on a trumpet that isn't made anymore. How could she protest?

Ahhh. Devil made me do it!

Just bought the Capri Shephard Crook cornet.

Now, LOL, I've got a like-new cornet I'll sell at half price ($160.00). Fun to play, fine for Trad music, adaptable to community-level BBB section.

Thank you, Brett!

I am stunned that Getzen will no longer build herald/fanfare trumpets.

They have been making heralds since before I was born - and that's a while. On top of which, they have always been among the better playing and sounding ones made (despite Getzen always classifying them alongside student models).

There are only a couple other sources, none of which are the equal of
Bachs are available for a staggering price and long wait, but there is something about a stretch 37 that just doesn't sound right in this application.
CarolBrass has one, but it lacks the solidity of the Getzen both in durability and projection without distortion.
That's it for the major makers. Pretty much anything else out there is a low-end Chinese stencil (sometimes at an other than low-end price with a German name, etc.), or a spectacularly expensive custom hand built boutique horn, that is more likely than not to have a "unique personality" type intonation profile bolstering that boutique mystique

The ad for the lacquer Vax trumpet has a listing price of $2100 and in the description it says the original retail price = $2103.

That would've probably been the original price when the horn was new in 2010.

No Ron, I mean what makes you think they're discontinuing the line.

Their website has only one such model - marked discontinued. Nothing new there as an alternative.

Exactly right. The pricing on these was based on the original price when they were new and their current condition.

You know, when we discontinued the herald a few years ago we had the same half dozen or so in stock for years with no demand or orders for them. We had to discount them just to get rid of the inventory. A few years later and suddenly everybody missed them. The truth is we can’t build everything and there are probably only a few people left in the factory with any experience with them. There’s a reason the Bachs are long wait/high price.

Whew been eyeballing that piccolo for a few days now... Sadly my vintage Eterna Picc plays so well its hard to justify, but those new custom series piccs are pretty unbelievable.

Well, my Capri Cornet arrived yesterday and it's showroom quality. There's nothing that cries "used" or "B Stock". Another good deal from Brett,

I picked up the 3001MVS from Brett. First the horn is as described. Excellent player - way above my pay grade, in that I’m learning. But I hope to grow into this horn, to get all that it is capable of. I wanted an excellent horn - meaning in like new condition, pro level (not that I deserve that) but without paying brand new prices, since I’m not worthy enough to plunk for a brand new horn.

The valves as everyone knows are typical Getzen quality…outstanding! Brett was super helpful, and patient with me as he helped me make a good decision, as there were other offerings available. Right now, I'm just having fun playing some tunes, scale, etc...experimenting with different mouthpieces, seeing what is the best fit. Thanks TH and Brett for all you guys do for beginners and expert alike!
