I picked this up yesterday. It's a previously unreleased recording from 1979. Chet is fantastic on this: strong chops, fantastic lines, so lyrical and perfect. A lot people seem to like Chet's music from earlier in his career. I much prefer his playing from his later years.

I've been enticed in by the YouTube algorithm to the nightly streams from Smalls and Mezzrow clubs in NYC. Bruce Harris on tpt and Ben altzer in piano Sunday night were superb. Forgot the bassist and drummer's names and the title was wrong: called it Richard Cortez Polite Jam Session.

I just watched this to cap off my day.

Tasty, tasty stuff from Till Bronner. I also recently went to my Amazon Music account and downloaded a few Warren Vache albums. Can't believe I've paid so little attention to him all these years.

Yesterday I got in a mood and I pulled up my Jerry Hey discography and started from the very beginning in 1976. Given that AllMusic credits him with 1119 recordings this should keep me busy for a while.

When I watch my toddler son - we like to listen to records together. I pulled out this New York Philharmonic Brass Ensemble record with John Ware and Nathan Prager playing Ewald 1, Starer, and Sanders. It's cool to hear how they interpret the Ewald. A fun record.

Exposing your kid to good music at an early age! I used to play Count Basie records next to my son's crib and as an adult he is the only one of my five kids who plays the trumpet and the only one who loves jazz as much as I do.

Thanks! Very cool. We have a lot in common in terms of what we share to our kids.

That's so funny you mentioned Count Basie: we listen to the 'Atomic Basie' and 'One More Time' records a lot. I really hope he enjoys this kind of music as an adult. I just remember listening to records with my Dad like this - and it makes me smile.
