Don't know whether this is the right forum, but I need a replacement spring for a 1903 Flugelhorn. It has bottom sprung valves, and the second valve spring needs to be replaced. Does anyone know where I might get one?

Apologies for the bad joke. Just couldn’t resist.

Best of luck on the valve spring.

Measure the length and width of your spring and do an eBay search for Bottom Valve Springs and see what alalabre0 (Tope Band Supply Co.) has to offer. They give the width and length for the springs. You don't need "1903 Besson" springs.

You could also contact:

https://www.jlsmithco.com/product/valve-springs/
https://mouthpieceexpress.com/
https://www.ferreestoolsinc.com/collections/trumpet/products/ferree-s-valve-springs?variant=30357559246895 (by the dozen)

You might get regular top springs to work if you get them long enough.

You will want to buy a set of three to get the feel to match. Springs are cheap - shipping is expensive.

You might check with your local music store for a set of bottom springs. If you can get them for less than $10 - just get them there.

If you have an account with Allied Supply they will have what you need. If you don't have an account find a repairman who does and have him order them for you. I just ordered sets for my bottom sprung flugels and Couesnon piccolo and they were perfect (and quite inexpensive). The Allied catalog shows photos of all the springs they offer so a match should be easy.
