For awhile now, I have quite liked the visuals of those two-tone bells (not those with the Kranz/Garland - they are pretty, too, but not the subject of the question). Obviously two-tone bells need to be two-piece, else the thing wouldn’t work. Now, I’m aware of
Olds Studio
Olds special
Holton Super Collegiate
Some Adams models
Who else made something like these? Not saying I’d start collecting but they sure are pretty _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

Thanks, I didn’t know that but also realized there are Hüttl trumpets (and their Selmer Invicta stencils) that have two tone bells. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

The multiple alloy flair also affects tonal and projection characteristics as well, IMHO. I know my old Studio cornet projects really well with little effort. And the Nickel/Bronze bell on the Special posseses a richer core of tone than the earlier brass bell Special cornets. _________________ huntman10

If you mean my assessments, 60 years of playing, buying and selling cornets. I have over 25 currently, and have owned over 300 over the years. I currently have all the Olds cornets I referred to in my post, including the Ambassador, A6 Ambassador Shepherd's Crook, Special (Brnze/Nickel bell), Studio, Super, Super Recording, and Recording. No longer have the Opera although I wrote the review of that model in "Olds Central" website. I haven't had a shot at the Mendez cornet, but it is on my short list. I did experiment on Olds Special cornets once by having a brass bell installed on the later Special (originally tri-color bell) model. The timbre was quite noticeably different
I consider my reference to be to be empirical experience, and a long conference with Dr Arthur Benade of Case Western Reserve University in the 80's when I was doing research (he did much of the Conn research on bells in the 50's and 60's) when I was developing a program using mechanically generated acoustic energy (loud noise) to clean large scale particulate/air filters.... _________________ huntman10

Uh, basic personality disorder? 😳 Maybe insecurity about my opinionated stance.... or too lazy or inexperienced to post pix. Let me work on that.....

Lotus horns have some 2-tone models. Check their website. |

but inquired about a silver bell w/ lacquer flare and highlights which wasn't cheap lol |

Arghh, with Lotus and Adams making two tone bells, I’ll probably skip the collection idea (which was more of a joke anyway, but those two would drive up the total funds needed quite a bit ).
@AndyDavids: I am not sure I understand what you’re saying. I was specifically referring to trumpet bells where the bell is a different material from the flare. For example the largest part would be brass and then the last few in/cm would be nickel silver. You seem to refer to a trumpet where the body is one material (and finish) and the bell is something else. This is fairly common and I have that on my Bach: body is brass with nickel silver outer slides and the bell is gold brass. Or am I misunderstanding something? _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

I own a very old Yamaha 232 that has a red brass bell flare and regular brass bell stem. It is one of the best Yamaha Bb trumpets I have ever played. _________________ Dr. Albert L. Lilly, III DM

Now that is interesting. Could be a one off or maybe a custom job to replace a damaged bell? _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

It was a standard feature. I know I've seen several like that, but mine seems to play exceptionally well. It's also an easy way to tell the age of a 232... _________________ Dr. Albert L. Lilly, III DM
