For those who may not have heard, David (Dave) B. Evans died on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
He had just enjoyed a Birthday Dinner with his Son and Daughter, was in apparent good health, and was in great spirits. His passing, was needless to say unexpected. Most likely cardiac related.
He is survived by his Son Todd, and Daughter Heather.
I'll post more information when I get it. _________________ Yesterday the Trumpet won. Today you might break even. Tomorrow you die, the Trumpet wins for good! |

I studied with Dave for many years. He was quite a character and a huge influence on my playing. Beyond playing Dave was a good listener and told great stories. Just talking to him brought me into the whole universe of making music.
It's no mystery that Dave had a number of health issues from a relatively young age.
I stay in contact with a number of his students to this day. And all had great affection for the man. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

The service was nice. There was a pretty good group of players in attendance. Per his wishes, a large contingent of peers and students played Danny Boy to end the ceremony. _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

Here's a short video of a number of Dave's students playing Dave's favorite song, Danny Boy at his service.
https://youtu.be/nTMHOWpzI_0
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!
But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
You'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me! _________________ "I'm an engineer, which means I think I know a whole bunch of stuff I really don't."

Good grief, been listening to this song all my life but never really paid attention to the lyrics. That's beautiful. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Dave Evans was a fellow Claude Gordon student and was one of the teachers/coaches at Claude’s Brass Camps. At several different times during my years in LA I took lessons with Dave to prepare for various orchestral auditions. His insight and teaching were invaluable to me. And more importantly, he was just a great, great guy. |
