Sometimes ya just gotta GO for it - especially if it’s an etude that is only about 20 seconds long!

Just wanted to pop in and say that I enjoy the recordings. I use them as reference recordings for students! It's nice to have great recordings of so many useful teaching etudes.
What's your experience been like with an active ribbon? Have you every compared your R-122 to the R-121? I'm curious what differences might exist between essentially the same mics, just one active and the other passive. It sounds awesome! What interface are you using, or is it pre-built into the booth? |

Hi Tyler - I appreciate you taking the time to follow along!
As far as the two mics are concerned - my understanding is that they are identical in their recording capabilities. I just chose the 122 because I didn’t want the extra Db booster as another piece of equipment that is needed for the 121.
The mic is running thru an Audient iD14 into Apple Logic Pro.

Collins “Mini Etudes” #156
If you want a good low register - you will actually have to practice and play down there a lot!

One of the more tricky etudes in the book. Good luck if you take this one on. Keep the fingers and articulations as snappy as possible!

The challenge here is to stay in the upper register without shutting down from pinching. Good luck!

This is one of my favorites of the “Mini Etudes”. Though relatively long - I just really enjoy being asked to sing beautiful lines for an extended period of time!

Gotta keep that single going and keep the fronts of the notes all the same. Playing down the center of the horn will help with this!

Only THREE Mini Etudes left! With this one, and many of the others - the only way to get better at playing in the 5th partial and above is to actually practice there. Good luck!

Gotta have FAST fingers for this one! I recorded it twice - you’ll have to let me know which one you like better.

Only ONE of these left? Unbelievable.
Well - with this one - plan ahead for the upper notes. Our success on the upper notes depends on what we do BEFORE going for those notes!

This is it - END OF THE LINE! The last final “Mini Etude” is upon us.
Thank you to Phil Collins for writing such fun and engaging short etudes. And thank you to everyone who followed along and took the time to listen and comment!
I hope you’ve all enjoyed these and I hope you’ll continue to follow along on more musical adventures coming down the pike!
