Hello,

During 6 months I play a Getzen Eterna SK...(1987)
A beat up trumpet but no major problems.
I like the easy way she play's and the sound , both are better as my Yamaha 6335RC .

Question for the people here with knowledge about Getzen trumpets:
How compares the high end Getzens from now against my old Eterna?
Are they a lot better? ( sound, easy playing ... )

Thank You.

I played a Getzen Capri and Eterna 700. The 700 was a fine trumpet, but not an upgrade in comparison with my 5335. Once I played briefly a high end Getzen (I think an 907), and that was a very nice instrument. Light and it played effortless.

Question to Orban; you traded a 5335 for a 6335RC. Wat are the key differences in sound and playability between the two?

To Heinz,

It was a Yam 5335G i owned.
Comparing the Yam 5335G against the Yam 6335RC ;
Both trumpets have a goldbrass bell (= more copper) .

1,- Feeling in the hands.
The RC feels more professional, smooter valves and less noisy. And i think a little heavyer.

2,- Playability.
About the same.Both are OK.

3,- Sound.
A little more "core" (or body) with the RC.

My opinion...
The Yam RC is NOT a big step-up if you own a 5335G.
My old Eterna is the clear winner

I haven't played a Getzen 900SK. Assuming it is similar to the Getzen 900 Severinsen, the closest match would be the current 900S. Those are fun horns. Similar models would be the excellent 907DLX, which I would regard as a better all-purpose horn -- and the 900DLX, which is one of my favorite horns, although a bit bright for some uses.

I have been always interested by Getzen trumpets and tried many of them.
Not only the Pre Dark Ages, also the trumpets from The Dark Ages (the time Getzen was not any more in the family Getzen: late '80 mid '90.

My experiences are very differend; I had very open blowing Eterna 900's from both pre- en into dark ages, I played for years a rather tight Eterna 700 + several Capri's, but also I had -for me- normal playing Eterna's from pre and into The Dark Ages: So to me Getzen Eterna 900 all do play in a different way.
Also the sound different: the Dark Aged Eterna's play and sound more like Vincent Bach Stradivarius trumpets rather than the pre Dark Aged Eterna's; they sound more 'commerial' if you know what I mean.
Now I play a late 80's Eterna 900 ML which feels to me like a very very good solid Bach 180/43. Very niche for pop music. The early 90's Eterna Lare Bore plays very well in classical settings. Although made out of the Getzen family it is one of my finest horns.

Once I was in the oppertunity to playtest the new 900 Eterna's; both the 'Classic' and the 907 model.
Both very nice horns, the 907 is still very high on my 'to have list'

Thank you! It is what I thought.

About the Eterna; if you like it maybe you can get it fixed up by an instrument technician?

No need , i did it myself.
Fixed stuck main tube...by heat.
Fixed 2 loose braces and rolled a big dent out of the bell. ( with a shovel handle )

Trumpet looks old and used. Play's very well.

I personally think the 3052 and the 3001 Vax models play better than the modern Eterna Classic. Those two trumpets stand up to the best Yamahas and Bachs that I have played, as well as most Kanstul or Schilke models.

There is one reason that I practice: to be ready at the downbeat when the final trumpet sounds.

This is a loaded question.

What horn is easier for me to achieve the sound, etc. that I want? or which is easier for you to achieve the sound that you want?

We're not all the same - the equipment that works for me may be awful for you.

Exactly. Otherwise there would be one company making one trumpet.
