Well, it's a museum goers' paradise. I've been to the:
Rijksmuseum
Stedelijk Museum
Van Gogh Museum.
Hermitage Museum
as well as a killer Gaugin display.
See if you can get in to a performance by the Netherlands Dance Theater. Awesome.
See if there any performances by the Concertgebau Orchestra.
Jazz: Bimhuis and the Paradiso.

There used to be a reputable music store in the city centre but unfortunately it closed a few years ago.
As for performances and events, you may find this site helpful.
Kehaulani already listed most museums. Besides the ones he mentioned, there’s also a science/physics oriënted museum called NEMO. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into that.
And if you’re interested in some folklore, the outdoors museum Zaanse Schans is only a 10-15min train ride away from Amsterdam.
UPDATE: my partner just informed me that the Amsterdam Light Festival coïncides with your visit. It’s a display of light art throughout the city and you can either walk or enjoy it by boat. _________________ 1975 Olds Recording trumpet

I studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory once. Amsterdam is just such a cool city. I am envious. Enjoy! _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

Been there, done some of that, would do it again.
It has been many years but when I was there you could tour the Heineken brewery. You needed to book in advance in those days. |
