Lengthy interview of Conte Candoli. A touch with history.

Thanks! A nice relaxed, humble guy with eons of experience. Warm and friendly interview, indeed!

It´s so refreshing to listen to these seasoned guys; the tempo of speech is so adagio yet full of life and feelings, reflecting; in contrast to todays fast talking.
Conte also mentions this - the art of leaving out notes instead of virtually vomiting notes...

Not to nit-pick but it's spelled Candoli.

He was such a nice guy and incredible Trumpet player.. my uncle used to take me to a lot of the recordings etc.. in LA when I was a young boy just starting out on the Trumpet..was almost always Conte Candoli, John Audino and a young Chuck Findley with my uncle Ray Triscari in the section.. so great to listen to them at a young age life.. sitting right next to them!!!

We were playing a New Years Eve gig in Scottsdale, AZ and Doc was starting to pull "a Tommy Dorsey" at rehearsal. Count leaned over to me and said, "he hasn't sat in the back row for far too many years". Later that night during the gig he said, "you trying to steal my gig?" That was one of the nicest compliments ever for me.

I got to play with him in a big band several time during his last years in the Palm Springs area. He was just as friendly and approachable as could be, actually nicer than some of the other regulars there. He had nothing to prove. He said it all when he played.

I think he was happy there. He seemed to have lots of friends in the community coming out to hear him play.
