Hello All…
First post for me but have been watching this forum for months. Good and interesting information.

I just picked up an excellent condition Getzen 80 Deluxe cornet made in 1949. Other then needing a good cleaning, it barely looks used.

I was looking around at postings for the same cornet on eBay and Reverb and noticed a difference in my valves compared to those.

My valves have the felt ring sitting on top of the valve with the cap on top of it where every other one I see has cork between the valve and the felt. What is strange is that mine plays just fine but the cork, or lack of, is confusing me.

Does anyone have one of these that can confirm if the cork should be there or not? If so, where could I get them?

Talked to Getzen but they could not assist.

Thanks…

Heard back from Getzen - great people there…. Thanks!

They had a horn of similar vintage and took pictures/measurements.
The cork is supposed to be there!
Cork and felt = 0.328” total

Ordered parts on JL Smith and should be here soon.

I've heard that these are quite responsive cornets.
I'm glad yours is in great shape for the age.

Nat Adderley played these horns among many others.

Here is the album where you can clearly see that it is a Getzen,
