Certainly a digression from OP, but man, I agree. Get on an elevator and someone has on coconut lotion or some such awful smelling stuff. Agreed when too much smellies anywhere. We ain't got no stinkin' elevators here. Why do elder women need so much powder ?
Many did enjoy the non gas smell of scented Zaja oils.
Anyone recall the unwashed odors in a barracks ? The 50's-60's subway eau de underarms in Paris or N.Y. ?
Sorry, but this OP does long for Zaja oils; too bad. It's Cass now.
Thx for all the comments. The end. |

The point of my post was that I think Blue Juice is terrible aside from it's odor and recommended some better oils.
My comment about scented everything was just an aside. And I'm mostly referring to unnecessarily scented products you see in stores - scented soap, scented laundry detergent, dryer sheets, dishwashing liquid, kleenex, bath tissue, trash bags, and don't even get me started on f-ing air "fresheners" as if spewing a bunch of nasty chemicals into the air freshens it.
Zaja's hardly a eggregious offender in this, I'm pretty sure they used essential oils for their scents. I don't have any need for scented valve oil, I prefer odorless, but others can do as they will.
And yes, this is an American thing. You go to other countries, and it's much less of a everything is scented thing. I've lived other places in the world.
And I'm not talking about personal hygiene or middle school locker rooms.
I know I'm just yelling at the wind here, because there's no way this is changing, it's too oddly ingrained in the culture - probably thanks to commercials and corporate influence - but, for some reason I mentioned it.
Anyway, I'd avoid Blue Juice. Yamaha, Ultra Pure, and Hetman (if you can get it) are good.
Have a great day. May your valves always go up and down.
For the record it IS mostly an American thing. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Dear Msr. Finn:
Even in Helsinki or Minnesota women, and sometimes men, use deoderant (sp) and shave their legs. It is global now. Well perhaps not in Beijing or Moscow !
Ain't an "American thing" anymore Finn. Can you play "It's a Wonderful World" ?
Got Cass. No odor. |

Like I said, I was talking about unnecessarily scented products. Not deodorant. Not personal hygiene or associated products.

For a short period Woodwind and Brasswind had a shop on 23rd Street in Manhattan and I worked there. Phil Smith came in one day and purchased a few bottles of Blue Juice. I decided that if Blue Juice was good enough for him it would be good enough for me.

Whew. Copy that C.F. Will take the unsolicited advice under advisement.
Are we getting a little hot about oil and hygiene ? Ain't my PhD worth anything ?
End. |

I don’t want to pour any (valve) oil into the fire, if y’all apologize the flat joke but having lived in the US for quite a while I am clearly with Finn here on the scent thing. Also I don’t think it is about someone’s PhD (or not).
HOWEVER, this is not the question of the thread and I’d just think that companies come and go, so if one does not deliver, try another one. I really like Hetman and also the Tromba T2 (which DOES smell, but it’s alright). I understand the OPs frustration with Zaja, but having read upthread how they seem to do business they were not likely to survive for long anyway. _________________ 2019 Martin Schmidt eXcellence

On a thread about valve lubrication, if your PhD isn't in chemistry, it ain't got that swing, so it don't mean a thing. |

Agreed. Made my way in spite of the oh so advanced degree.
It was a response to the Finn's comment about my reading comprehension.
Which, BTW, is just OK lately, but getting worse with age.
Some have got to lighten up. Hey, it's just oil, chops, talent, etc..... |

Update--today got a notice that Zaja is shipping.
The order was cancelled last November after many emails and calls without reply.
Now Zaja wants to charge my card.
Is this a real business ?
El Fuego wrote: | Though new to TH, I've followed it for too long.
Here's the short story. I ordered Zaja Valve oil the beginning of October.
Only a brief email receipt was sent then.
After that, NADA, rien, nothing. Many emails to Rich and Andre, and a few phone messages.
No response. No phone. No emails. Empty.
I'm ready to cancel the credit card order and switch to.. ...Blue Juice ?
I love their oil ( prefer the mulberry scent...no comments please 😜).
So, what gives ? Any insiders around that can explain?
Perhaps they even read TH. |

Well, hopefully, you will finally get your order. They may be having cash flow or supply issues. I have used many different oils over the years, including Zaja - which I still have and use occasionally. There are a lot of great oils on the market and Zaja is unique because of the smell. But there are many oils that are every bit as good. As long as it works I don't worry too much about which oil I am using. _________________ It's the sound that makes the difference! |

Due to Zaja's no reply for 4 + months, the order was canceled last Fall.
Who cares about their "problems". It's business with too many hacks and scams out there in the internet ether.
4 months without any communication ain't the way to deal.
If I can't do a gig or play bad, then there's no charge. Ethics.

More Darwinian Zaja trials. Now after 4 + months . phone calls, emails canceling the order, the Zaja wonders are shipping the oil.
Their phone will not take calls WITH my caller ID.
I do not want to work with this kind of "business". Kind of like the scammers
not allowing an "opt out".
Do Rich and Andre Zaja really think that it is fine to treat customers this way ?
Cancel this. Delete. It is now a dispute with CitiBank.
I am PI$$ed( excuse the word). |

Rich and Andre Zaja made it Downeast...only took 5+ months.
If and only if if wasn't a PITA to send it back, I would.
No business deals like this. No excuses ( e.g." my mom didn't get me up in time for the gig" ).
Not people you want to deal with.
With this rep, how do you know that even the product is worth it ?

Here's the deal Eric. Since some here feel Zaja's bus ethics are OK. Even excusing Rish/Andre for never communicating... ever. Except to charge my credit card.
Send me the money plus the Zaja Al Capone shipping fee. Ypur check or card will be immediately cashed.
Then you will...maybe... receive the oil in 5 months. Do not expect me to email you about the 5 month delay.
I am dismissed. The End.
