Any thoughts on how the Monette Tradition Plus mouthpiece works for C trumpet?
Specifically, how does the TP 2 compare to a C2S3 Resonance classic, prana, etc.
Thanks. |

In my opinion, the tradition plus is lighter and doesn't lock in my C trumpet as well as even my XLT weight mouthpiece, and definitely not as well as my Resonance mouthpieces. The tradition plus does offer different characteristics that would be of value to some players, but I feel like the specific B/C/D/E mouthpiece lock in better for me on the correct instrument. I can put them down, pick up the wrong mouthpiece, and immediately feel the differences.
Your experience may not agree with mine, and I respect that!

Thanks for replying - I have no experience with Prana, only standard weight Monettes - is the T+ closer to Prana or Standard in your opinion? It feels very, very open to me. |

Standard. If you feel the T+ is open, go with a heavier mouthpiece. The mass has a tendency to tighten up the mouthpiece for me, and the lighter weights are more open. _________________ Dr. Albert L. Lilly, III DM

That confirms my suspicions, thanks.
Curious - do you use an XLT mouthpiece for C trumpet in addition to the Resonance? Wondering if I need to look for something to aid upper register C trumpet work (brighter stuff and pops) or will the Resonance do it all?
I just got ahold of a Res. C2S3, and it's awesome, but haven't had the chance to test it on a gig yet. Still working out how to approach the upper register.
Thanks for your help! |

I use a slightly shallower resonance for pop and movie stuff. I normally play a B1-5M/C1-5M for most stuff, but a B1-5S3/C1-5S3 for pops....all standard resonance weight. I do like the XLT blank on Bb if I play jazz.
Happy to offer my personal experiences!

I used to use a Tradition Plus 3, and the sound was great, but it was impossible to play soft on—for me at least—and made certain excerpts extra difficult.
I liked it for louder stuff, like Mahler and the like, but I just could never get a good solid core on it below a mp dynamic.
