NYC has had something of a glut of younger big bands recently. Some really exciting stuff.
Steven Feifke Big Band
Charlie Rosen - 8-Bit Big Band
Remy Le Boeuf - Assembly Of Shadows (Grammy Nominated)
Miho Hazama - M-Unit
Eyal Vilner Big Band
Jihye Lee Jazz Orchestra
Terazza Big Band (Grammy Nominated)
Manuel Valera - New Cuban Express
Brian Krock - Big Heart Machine
Ulysses Owens Big Band
Angela Morris/Anna Webber Big Band
My own big band (co-directed with Mike Sailors and Danny Jonokuchi), the New Alchemy Jazz Orchestra, has a few singles out for streaming. We did a video shoot of our last gig pre-pandemic, which is entirely Christmas music. Check it out on youtube _________________ New Album "ensemble | in situ" on Bandcamp

Anything by Don perks up my ears. Hard to fathom that little more than a year later he'd be gone. I knew he'd been battling heart issues, but he looked fit, young and full of energy in these videos. I met Roy Stevens a few times after Don passed. Don had studied with Roy for many years. Roy was a very nice man, but he was a crusty character. Swore like a long shoreman. Don's name came up in conversation one time. He got real quiet and emotional talking about Don. |
