New Embouchure Development tool

Hi everyone,

I’m so excited to announce something that I’ve been working on for a while now. I’ve released a tool that can help brass players of all levels with embouchure development.

I intended this to be used in many ways, one of which is for beginners. It can also be a resource for established players who are looking to improve in areas such as efficiency, core of sound, flexibility, response, range, and overall consistency.

I’ve created 10 video tutorials with 14 backing tracks on my youtube channel, in order to help players understand the best ways to use this device.

My hope is to bring more awareness and acceptance around the ideas of embouchure development.

I've watched several of the videos and they are excellent - short, and to the point. They are 'information dense', and I recommend taking the time and effort to really hear and watch in order to understand the points that are made.

Does this help find and set a correct embouchure?

I’ve had some issues with getting a consistent mouthpiece placement and am looking for a tool to help me get a solid embouchure setup.

Could this tool do that? Or is it just for building strength off of your current setup?

Also, how is this superior to the coffee straw method?

And besides listening, pay close attention to the various embouchure actions and placements that are involved.

I just received my Embosure trumpet practice tool from Tom Hooten and I’m impressed. The concept is brilliant and the build quality is excellent!

The visualizer alone makes the Embosure a useful device but what makes it special is the removable aperture setter and the conditioning tool. I hope the combination of these elements will help me learn to play more efficiently.

As a serial come-backer I’m prone to spread chops and too much pressure so I’m eager to see if the aperture setter will help me correct these sound and range-damaging tendencies.

My plan is to study the YouTube tutorials Tom has produced and use the Embosure in my daily practice. I’ll keep notes and post another review here in a month with comments on the impact it’s having on my playing.

Until then, my thanks to Tom for producing a tool that promises to offer major benefit to me and other players of every age and level!

I've been using Tom Hooten's Embosure Development Tool for about a month now and I can officially proclaim it to be the Swiss Army Knife for chop improvement!

The visualizer provides a good look at how my lips are meeting in the mouthpiece. The aperture setter provides a way to focus my chops for the most resonant sound. And the conditioning/coordination feature enables a great isometric workout.

I use the tool to start my playing day and then keep it in my pocket so I can use the chop strenthening feature when I'm driving or watching TV.

Bottom line: the Embosure Development Tool is a great product that offers a lot of value for less than the cost of many mouthpieces. I heartily recommend it!

As a post script to my review, let me echo what Jay Costa posted earlier in this thread: it’s essential to study the videos and use the backing tracks Tom Hooten has produced to help users get the most out of his Embosure development tool.

This is especially important for anyone just beginning the process of forming an effective embochure but also applies to more experienced players who are seeking better sound, response, range and endurance.
