I try to console myself by pretending that they are paying homage to the 'Beat' generation. _________________ "He that plays the King shall be welcome . . . " (Hamlet Act II, Scene 2, Line 1416)

I know! But as I said, I try to console myself by pretending that they are paying homage to the 'Beat' generation. _________________ "He that plays the King shall be welcome . . . " (Hamlet Act II, Scene 2, Line 1416)

As a cranky old geezer I hate all of the “me and him” type utterances. S/b “he and I”. |

I’ll go the other way. I hear so many people afraid to use “me” when it’s correct, and use “I” instead in the attempt to sound well educated.
Example: “The conductor scolded John and I for playing the wrong note.”
Here’s the test - take “John and” out of the sentence and see how stupid it sounds. As the direct object, “me” is correct, not “I”. _________________ "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away ." - Sir Thomas Beecham |

What exactly goes through someone's mind when they decide it's a good idea to bump a thread that hasn't had a reply in SEVEN YEARS to complain about someone's grammar? |

I found brass washers at my local ACE Hardware that fit in the bottom valve caps of my Holton 48. I play with the washers in the caps once in a while if I feel like it. They do change the sound. The washers also fit in the caps of my Chicago Benge, but I decided it would be sacrilegious to change the sound of the Benge.

Back when this thread started in 2005, you could put dimes in your valve caps to get a pretty decent sound. But with the current rate of inflation, you'll now have to use quarters to get the same effect.

Actually, I've only been able to fit quarters in the bottom caps of Berliner valves. For regular Perinet valves these days, I make do with two dimes in each cap. _________________ "He that plays the King shall be welcome . . . " (Hamlet Act II, Scene 2, Line 1416)
