Stumbled upon a post under the Stamp heading which made me somewhat irritated. Some guy wrote "ignore this post"----just wanting to obtain posts so as to be able to sell.

Looking upon this from a more fundamental poin of view : Shouldn´t all posters here have something to say or ask about the noble art of horn playing?

Should the TH accept posters flatly stating they have nothing to say but something to sell??
Just asking

They should be required to be active members with quality posts to participate in the buy and sale threads or should have to pay fees to sell horns. . I can't stand people who are here to just use the site to make money and not contribute. They could care less about our community and should have to use ebay. I'm apart of certain communities that require as much as 100 quality posts and 3 or 4 months before selling. They want to ensure you will contribute to the community.

You are absolutely right and that was my first reaction. But I also think it's invited by the policy, itself. If you're going to just ask for five superficial posts to qualify, you're asking for it and have no one to criticize but the policy, itself.

If you ask for, say, twenty posts of substance, (maybe even approved by a moderator), you may come closer to the goal of having a real Forum participant before they can post.

This is not the first time this has come up (nor will it probably be the last, redundancy being one of our favorite traits) but the Forum administrators are seemingly laissez faire about this, so with that in mind, it will probably continue unchanged.

I’m thinking at least the guy is honest. Maybe on the long run he will contribute something more useful. In any case, he will have a hard time selling stuff anyway - no forum visibility or credibility.

I don't know about that. There are people with just 5 posts that sell constantly. That's only purpose of using these forums. In cases like that I think they should be charges for using the marketplace. @abrian https://www.trumpetherald.com/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=36657. Would be one such person.. there are others just like them.

Seymor, it's "barrow" not "barrel."

Yes you are. If I'm not mistaking, the minimum is five. And they should be reasonably substantial. The goal is to involve people in the forum on its own value and not just as a place to sell equipment.

Hey Kehaulani, this was recently changed just to one post. Five became self-defeating.

This way we've only got one worthless post to ignore instead of five.
The post in question was deleted, though.

I saw an ad in the TH Marketplace a few weeks ago, and when I clicked on "View forum posts," there were none! Maybe he/she had posted one, and it was removed but the ad stayed up?! I thought, if there's ever been an anomaly of a bug flying at the edge of the ever-expanding universe and it never making a full circle, since it is "ever expanding," then this was clearly an example of the bug not being able to breathe. (If you followed that logic, then you're better than me and deserve a free, refurbished Conn 80A!)

Just my opinion: I think the forum needs a 10 post minimum rule that is actually enforced. I realize that the admin here is made up of volunteers who probably can’t monitor everything, but there must be a way to set up the forum so someone with less than X number of posts cannot post an ad. And if the minimum was 10 or more it would at least be more difficult for someone to get around the requirement.

Of course there are never any guarantees; buying anything on line has risks, but I think in order to prevent TH from becoming a Craigslist, LIKE OTHER FORUMS DO, something like this should be put in place.

Will it happen? I doubt it.

At this point, I see it as an all-or-nothing situation. Either take the reason behind requiring posts seriously (see Brad) or fuggetaboutit. A half-hearted approach just tells prospective sellers that you're not really all that serious about it. If it's just window dressing, why bother with the requirement at all?

I'm sure most of you remember when it was 5 posts required (so it is indeed technically possible). Prospective sellers were just posting five worthless comments or posts, instead of one. It was worse.

Deleted posts do not apparently reset the Marketplace requirement—which is how there are still marketplace items from TheBrassClub (who I believe discussed their situation directly with the owners of TH, for what it's worth).

I know what a barrel is, but what's a barrow?

One post, five posts, fifty posts. I won't consider doing business with anyone here unless they've have several posts with something intelligent to say in each. If the poster even posts nonsense once, I'm not interested in their wares.

Barrow is synonymous with tumulus.

Exactly.

I don’t know how difficult or not difficult it would be to enforce a minimum (could be 10, could be 20) number of posts before an ad can be placed. If it’s set up like it was in the past, it’s not difficult to throw up (no pun intended) five meaningless posts. 20 might take enough effort to discourage the people who just want to use the forum as a Craigslist.

But as Mr. K. stated, if it’s not enforced, it doesn’t matter. Like some other people, I will not consider purchasing anything from someone here who obviously isn’t interested in anything other than selling. There are no guarantees, but I think the odds of being scammed are lower with people who are at least semi regular here.

Barrow is synonymous with tumulus.

If Desmond is buried in the marketplace, then how can he and Molly have kids?
(It's the other def. of barrow.)

It’s one of the other definitions and the one tumulus is synonymous with.

It could also be that Desmond is transporting molly in his barrow. .
